Organic Skin Care Tips For Winter
Winter is a time to look at your organic skin care regime to ensure it is working well for you. During winter a lot of people find their skin gets a lot drier, and this is because there’s less humidity in the air plus the weather and heating systems can be drying. So it’s a good time to review your face moisturiser and make sure it is giving enough hydration, nutrients and also is offering protection from things like bad weather and pollution which are stressors for skin and can cause ageing. But don’t make the mistake of thinking you need a moisturiser that is really greasy! That’s not a good look and can often just clog pores and attract dirt to the skin. Body lotion is also important at this time of year, with legs and arms mostly hidden away it’s easy to neglect them, but if you look after your skin in winter then when you do get to bare skin again in summer you will be pleased you put the effort in.
Hands tend to get very dry at this time of year as they really do get used a lot. So use a good hand cream and try to protect them when you can, wearing gloves for washing up and when you ...
... are out and about. If you have really uncomfortable dry hands which many people suffer with then I recommend trying Organic Shea Butter. It really is a butter but melts on contact with skin, it also works for any dry and irritated patches that you may have, great also for feet, elbows and lips. You can use it as a really intensive treatment for hands and feet by applying it heavily and then wearing sleep socks or gloves on top.
Another common skin complaint at this time of year is dullness, we lose our summer glow and it’s easy for dead skin cells to build up. This can be helped using a good cleanser and muslin cloth. Whether you use a cream cleanser or face wash is personal choice, but if you take them off using a damp luke warm muslin cloth and small circular movements then it has an exfoliating effect without being too harsh, important as you don’t want to cause damage so for this reason it is best to only do this once a week.
Now moving onto eyes - I always recommend using eye cream as this area is very delicate and will show ageing and tiredness. An eye cream keeps them in good condition, what is important is to apply it so as not to cause damage, one method is to put a little on the ring finger, gently rub to warm it and then dab all around the eye bone. And with the party season approaching a very easy pick me up for eyes is to wet 2 cotton wool pads in cold water, squeeze out, have a well deserved rest lying down with them placed on your eyes for a few minutes!
Now, as we know the run up to Christmas is a lot of fun, but it can also be quite stressful with so much to organise. What really helps to relax after a long day is adding organic lavender oil to a bath. Lavender is renowned for helping to aid a good nights sleep, all you need to do is add a few drops to your usual bath - it smells lovely too.
Finally the other thing to remember is that skin care is just one part of a natural beauty regime. It’s really important to eat well and get lots of antioxidants from fruits and vegetables. Also try to get active - try yoga and pilates, or just lots of walking. So that is just some very easy organic skin care tips that we can all do, and without spending a fortune.
