Curious George is an animated television series based on the most popular children’s book series ‘Curious George’, the tale of an inquisitive, mischievous monkey with insatiable curiosity. The well renowned books were written as well as illustrated by Hans Augusto Rey and his wife Margret Rey. This Emmy Award winning animated series is mainly aimed for the pre-school learners and the kindergarten students. The show is not about a series of lectures, but it is about the memorable, interesting comic adventures of this curious little monkey, which helps to motivate the children to expand their own investigations of the world.

At the end of each and every entertaining episode, this show not only helps children to gain some important knowledge as well as acts as the key to the introduction of science, mathematics and engineering. Curious George episodes are broadcasted daily on PBS kids and are a production of the Imagine Entertainment, WGBH Boston, and Universal Studio Family Productions. Each Curious George episode consists of two short cartoons, each of half hour duration and a live-action segment after each story. Developed by Joe Fallon, each episode is captioned by the caption center at WGBH for the deaf viewers. Episodes of Season 1 were narrated brilliantly by William H Macy while season 2 onwards the narrations are done by Rino Romano with great excellence.

Frank Welker gives the voice to the character Curious George while Jeff Benett gives the voice to The Man in the Yellow Hat. Over a total of six seasons about ninety Curious George episodes were aired till June 25th, 2012. The series is still in production and will begin airing from December 3rd, 2012. The Curious George Series is supported by a website which in turn helps in improving the learning as well as teaching environment by featuring several entertaining and educational games, parent teacher’s activities. There are several activities which invite the children to explore and make new discoveries about the properties of dust, sand, wind, water drops and learn to take care of our planet by reducing, reusing and recycling.

Though many parents are seen to help their children with language development literacy by reading stories aloud, but it has been observed that very few are conscious of enhancing the natural curiosity of their kids and supporting them in their educational potential in the fields of science, mathematics and engineering. They generally tend to be unaware of their innate tendencies towards inquiry and exploration. So these episodes help children to observe properties, learn about how things work which in turn gradually helps them to develop scientific thought process within them. Above all these episodes makes them appreciate about these disciplines and acquire the wealth of knowledge contained in them.

An episode named ‘Curious George Flies a Kite’ shows George experimenting with aerodynamics. Inspired by George’s activities, even kids learn how wind makes things move. Another episode Zeros with Donuts explains the importance of zeros and the relative magnitude of a number with zero. There are other remarkable Curious George episodes which illustrate the concepts of sinking and floating, power of momentum, concept of gears and their change in direction with respect to motion through funny incidents.
