Dislike: The Changes In Social Gaming On Facebook
Social games in Facebook became an element friends and family can enjoy by participating in games invited by peers. The games range from casual, role-playing, real-time strategy and other types of genres pulling in gamers. However, over the past six years or so, the quality of games in the now called App store on Facebook has deteriorated. Within this article, it examines the quality of the games and how these games are now no longer favored with old Facebook users.
It took only around six years for the Facebook App store to be spammed by low quality type games which prompted an insurgence of invitations from users across the network. Before the Facebook App store, there were games existing in Facebook and at the time, the games were enjoyable, and simply unique in their own right. Now, comparatively, the games are boring and lacking innovation.
Big name companies such as Zynga, Playfish, Microsoft and more were the leaders in developing games for the masses. The most popular amongst the companies is Zynga. Zynga at the beginning developed games where they were enjoyable by developing such titles such as Mafia ...
... Wars, Vampire Wars, Ville-type titles and more. The concept was simple; perform your actions within the 'energy' supplied until you run out. Inviting 'friends' provides you with a boost of 'energy' for you to continue your quests or you can wait for your 'energy' to be replenished.
However, with more users playing the game and with the demand of 'energy' rising, users are looking toward other options: creating dummy accounts or investing in real world money to buy virtual assets. The more players do this, the more players are drawn into the game thus prompting other companies to rise to see if their games will spawn income as well.
Games now in the Facebook App store are not as original as they used to be; every second game located in the App store is a clone of another. The only difference will be their characters and perhaps, their to-do list. In Facebook, there is a multitude of farming games which provide no planning or thought process to be executed. Another note with these games is that they are casual games meaning, they do not have an end. Players play quest after quest to rack up experience points, gold and acquire new items. To add to the list of the rising of low quality games, many games now require an integration with mobile phones and leaderboards to boast ranking amongst friends.
In conclusion, games in Facebook are not worth playing after 2006. The constant invitations from games prompts players to uninstall the application and continue using Facebook as a social media website, and not a gaming platform. The games lack originality and prompts users to use real world cash to acquire virtual assets. The games are not what they used to be and quite frankly, the quality of these games do not seem to be improving any where in the long run.
