Benefits Of Adding Double Doors To Your Home
Double doors are vertical doors that are hinged to side panels, eventually meeting in the middle. They are ideal additions to any interior home designs, adding a subtle charm to your surroundings.
Some benefits of these double doors can be classified as:
a) Innovative security features: They can provide extra security by adding surface mounted locking features to increase strength at the centre. Hence, unlike a single door, double doors distribute security at various points.
b) Decreased swing space: Single door takes the entire area of the arc made by the length of the door. However, double doors create two arcs of half the length, thus providing more floor space.
c) Active and passive option: Double doors give the option of limited view within a home. The active door can allow visitors to pass through, while passive doors can be closed with a surface mounted lock. The best example of such double doors is rebated doors.
d) Crafty French doors: The most desirable form of double doors is French ...
... doors. They have glass panels in the middle allowing transparent or translucent options for the home owners to display their creativity. Various designs and engravings can be etched on these glasses or even the frames holding them.
e) Swing option: A person can’t just walk into a single door and hope to walk out unhurt by the reverse motion of a swinging door, unless done swiftly. However swinging double doors with stabilizers make it easier to run through or walk through the middle without worrying of being knocked backwards.
f) Open hearted welcome: When double doors open outwards, they convey the feeling of a person spreading his arms wide to give a warm welcome. But a single door conveys the feeling of a hand stretched out for a handshake. Single doors create an “arm’s length distance” but double doors look “more intimate”.
g) Modified uses: Double doors are used in various forms – for room entry, patio entry, closets and even narcotic safes.
h) Suitability for home designs: Double doors are ideal were partial privacy is required. Interior designers prefer double doors because they can play around with them to create beautiful functional art pieces which will be loved by their owners.
Evolution of double doors:
Ancient Syrians used double doors made of stone due to the lack of wood. Since stones are hard to chip off, double door technique made it easier for Syrians to swing the heavy weight of stones.
The concept of double doors has evolved further to create multi-leaved doors with the use of more light-weight materials and better hinging technology. They have made life easier with their simplistic charm and multi faceted uses.
