The very mention of nice, picturesque and cool hill stations fills the hearts of people residing in the hot and humid locations of the world with a distinct feel of longing and wistfulness. Those who have been to hill stations invariably find the experience really memorable. The hilly terrains and the nip in the air combine to work magic at these hill stations.

In India, hill stations are typically located in the northern regions of the country, which are characterized by high altitudes. The prospect of getting out in nice and cozy winterwear at hill stations come as a welcome relief for people who have become all but accustomed to perspiring profusely. The cool breeze, the cold nights, the chilly mornings and the hint of mystery around the fog near the hills make hill stations virtual havens for people who are looking to have a nice break from their busy, everyday lives.

While the temperatures at the hill stations are typically much lower than other parts of the country, there is no guarantee of snowfall at these places. There are hill stations that remain cold throughout the year, without witnessing ...
... even a hint of snow ever. The small villages, which are visible from the hills, or even when you are driving along them, present a sight to behold. Tourists often fall into the habit of gazing at the beautifully decorated small huts in villages that are situated on the top of hills. The professions of the local inhabitants vary from agriculture, to travel and tourism activities. Some of the hill stations have steep, jagged slopes, which have a charm of their own. While staying at such places is fraught with potential dangers, people fond of adventure travel would definitely find them greatly attractive.

Hill stations offer a plethora of striking visual delights. The view of sunrise and sunset that one can witness from his/her hotel rooms is nothing short of scintillating. If you have a thing for adventure sports, hill stations have plenty to offer to you.

At a nice and pleasant hill station, you can simply wallow in the lovely atmosphere, and try out the fabulous local cuisines. The residents at hill stations are generally humble and extremely hospitable. Their innocence and pleasant disposition would surely bring a smile to your lips.

Tourism is one of the most thriving businesses in hill stations. The hotels and resorts at these places ensure that tourists have a nice, comfortable time, in the chilly surroundings. If you are looking for a nice spot for spending your vacations with your family members and/or a few close buddies, select from any of the idyllic Indian hill stations.

A visit to a hill station is nothing short of a lifetime experience for tourists. Each of the Indian hill stations has their distinct set of tourist attractions. More interestingly, the different hill stations also vary in their climatic conditions. There are places like Leh and Ladakh that become too cold to visit during the winter months. Kodaikanal, on the other hand, remains pleasant right through the year. Places like Darjeeling and Shimla also offer nice climatic conditions for visitors. Typically, Darjeeling climate hovers around 15 degrees centigrade throughout the year, with the minimum recorded temperature here being -5 degree centigrade.
