Massive data growth, Long-term data protection needs and new rigid data legislations have companies clamoring for reliable, fast and low-cost backup solutions. LTO ultrium tape format clearly stands apart with its unbeatable recording performance, higher data transfer speed, outstanding media compatibility, massive storage capacity, improved scalability and long term durability. This cutting-edge backup tape format was developed jointly by Seagate (now Quantum), HP and IBM.

IBM is a member of LTO consortium, and is the brand to trust for robust data security and low-cost backup operations. IBM TS2340 is an external LTO-4 tape drive that provides fast data accessibility, rock-solid reliability and enhanced backup performance. TS2340 tape drive is an optimal choice for the heavy demands of data storage in server environments, mid-range computer systems, workgroups and emerging business applications. Native transfer speed of TS2340 tape drive reaches up to 120MB/s. TS2340 tape drive features SAS and SCSI interfaces that enable seamless connection to UNIX, IBM System I, HP-UX, IBM System x, Sun Solaris, IBM System p ...
... and PC servers.

WORM (write once, read many) is a powerful and reliable functionality offered by LTO-4 tape media format. That’s why IBM has developed WORM and non-WORM cartridges. 95P4450 is a LTO-4 WORM cartridge, whereas IBM 95P4436 is a re-writable LTO-4 backup tape. WORM technology is very helpful for long term storage and regulatory compliance. WORM mechanism does not allow modifications and data deletions, which puts a stop to common operating errors.

Data storage capacity offered by IBM LTO-4 tape is 1.6TB (compressed), which is twice the capacity of LTO-3 tape cartridge.

Media interoperability is the biggest advantage of LTO tape format. LTO tape products are being offered by the world’s leading tape drive and media specialists, which has resulted in widespread availability of LTO products at competitive prices. Maxell, Imation, TDK, Sony, Quantum, HP, Fuji and Dell are few of the dominant LTO ultrium tape brands. Respective part numbers of LTO-4 tape cartridges manufactured by these companies are 183906, 26592, D2407-LTO4, LTX800G, MR-L4MQN-01, C7974A, 15716800 and 341-4640.

Market share of slr100 tape, hp rdx cartridge, vxa tape, Travan-7 tape, dlt-iv tape and dat72 tape has also increased significantly over the past few years.

IBM LTO-4 tape devices are built tough to efficiently handle the most demanding data storage requirements. IBM LTO4 ultrium tape solution supports AES 256-bit data encryption, which provides you complete peace of mind in event of theft or malicious data access. IBM has incorporated a large 256MB data buffer that contributes to the reduced tape rewind and data access times along with increased data throughput. Capacity of data buffer in IBM LTO-3 tape drives is 128 MB.

TS2340 tape drive has been designed to support the previous LTO tape generations. TS2340 drive can read and write to LTO-3 and LTO4 ultrium cartridges. Additionally, the drive is also capable of retrieving data from LTO-2 cartridges.

IBM LTO-4 ultrium tape devices offer the robustness and reliability demanded by today’s emerging business applications and data-rich I.T environments. The significant leap in throughput rate, media capacity and archival life afforded by IBM LTO-4 tape solution has eased the strain on backing up huge data amounts.
