Audi A3 – The Dominator

The new Audi A3 is considered to be a successor to the three door Audi 50 of 1974. After two generations, the every 5th Audi registered worldwide is an A3and it dominated its class. If you look at the all-new Audi A3 you will know how distinctive and conservative it is. There would be few who will believe that it is representing a revolution in compact car manufacturing and design. Audi's A3 is the first one to adopt group technical supremo Ulrich Hackenberg's 'secret weapon'. A3's the one came first with VW's 'MQB' platform. A3 using Modularer Querbaukasten, which is Modular Transverse Matrix, has its own advantages. This power packed compact car has shortened front overhang and crash performance is much better.

Audi claims that they are saving about 80kg of weight by using aluminum in bonnet, bumpers, chassis and body-in-white made from hot-formed steel with 26 percent ultra-high strength. Eventually new A3weighs 30kg more than its predecessors, with a tank full fuel it weigh 1370kg. ... TFSI petrol with 178bhp. Audi A3 diesel engine is available in 2.0-liter TDI delivering 148bhp mated with six speed manual gearbox and is front-wheel driven. The all-new improved and refined diesel engine has needle-bearing, belt-driven, low-friction camshafts, twin balancer shafts and belt-driven ancillaries.

The engine is supposed to deliver 7 percent more economy than the present A3, the peak power is improved by 10bhp. With aluminum sub-frames at both ends, suspension is quite comfortable with multi-links at the rear and struts at the front. Audi A3 is offering three spring and damper tunes: Standard, Sport and S-line suspension. Next year an adaptive magneto rheological dampers will be available. Rear seats are cozy and spacious enough to accommodate three grown adults, split-level floor and a 365-liter boot. With that stipulation, Audi cannot be praised high enough for demonstrating the class, accurately constant quality and controlled simplicity of A3's cabin. The interior is a perfect-fit, soft-touch and chrome-accented.

One would wonder how is it possible to have all these goodies available under £20,000. 'Exceptional' is the word that comes to mind. On the center of the console an electronic handbrake has replaced the old fashioned lever, a compact climate control console is mounted at the lowest point of dashboard. As well as an instrumental panel, jet-engine style 4 air vents, seven inch multi-function thin screen that comes out of the recess in the front and there is also Audi's new clever MMI Touch menu controller.Surprisingly, when you are standing outside of the new A3 you cannot hear much of clatter, and when you are inside of that car and shut the thick door behind you, the motor's clamor fades away to a mute. No doubt Audi A3 is a very good car which justifies all praises.
