Breast Thermography: Los Angeles Offers Early Detection

Many of you have probably heard of mammography, but may not be familiar with breast theromography. While most women don't get mammograms until later in life, thermography is available as an early detection device for younger women who may or may not be prone to breast cancer. It is quick, safe, and non-invasive, which is one reason why many women are seeking it out before they go the mammography route.

So what exactly is breast thermography? Theromography utilizes Digital Infrared Imaging based on the principle that vascular circulation and metabolic activity in both pre-cancerous tissue and the area surrounding a developing breast cancer is almost always higher than in normal breast tissue. Digital Infrared Imaging (DII) uses sophisticated computers and ultra-sensitive medical infrared cameras to detect, analyze, and produce diagnostic images of breast temperature variations. Because DII is extremely sensitive, these variations in temperature may be among the earliest detectable signs of breast cancer. Mainstay approaches to breast cancer detection primarily include self-examination, a physician's examination, and mammography. These methods have been long-standing; however, the mortality rate from breast cancer has remained relatively unchanged for forty years. As in the use of breast thermography, medical science needs to continue directing efforts at catching breast cancer in its earliest stages...at least until absolute prevention becomes a realty. For now, the use of DII has propelled breast thermography to the frontlines in battling breast cancer through early detection. This technique has brought, and will hopefully continue to bring, good news to many women.

Of course, even with all the detection methods available today, that does not change the need for women to make sure that they are doing everything they can to make sure their lifestyle is, in and of itself, preventative of cancers. The combination of early diagnostics and lifestyle changes might just be what is needed to lower breast cancer rates.
