The All New BMW X4

BMW is launching its Porsche fighter X4 SUV at the Detroit Auto Show in January. X4 will slot in along with the X3 as a sporty SUV for buyers. It takes it inspiration from the X6 but it is likely to be expensive than X3 with whom it shares a platform. Full details are yet to be released but one thing is for sure that with X4 BMW will have a contender in the rapidly growing ‘SUV coupe’ niche. X4 will be setting its sights at the upcoming Porsche Macan, the Range Rover Evoque and a new ‘Q4’ from Audi.

X6 has proven a hit for BMW and perhaps this fact has made BMW to go ahead with X4’s production. X6 comes with a twin-turbo 3.0 litre six engine and it is likely that the powertrain for the X4 will be the same. There is a possibility of an M-badged version as well in both diesel and petrol engines. The style for the all-wheel-drive X4 is set to be unique and to convey a sporty image. It is also sharing its engines and underpinnings with the X3. Prices are expected to start at around $42000. Just as the X6 is different from the X5; X4 will be distinguished from the X3 visually.

According ...
... to the reports in 2010, it is expected that the X4 will have the same difference in looks from the X3 as the X6 differs from the X5. It will have a sleek front end, stylish coupe-like roofline and typical four doors. It boasts a one piece tailgate which is heavily angled. X4 is set to receive four and six cylinder petrol and diesel units as used by the X3. Most intriguingly, the X3 SUV will get a performance model from the guys at M division. X4 M is set to be released at the end of 2014 and is expected to run a tweaked version of the twin-turbocharged six cylinder petrol engine.

Hot off the heels of X4 M will be X4 M diesel which will have a tweaked version of BMW’s turbocharged 3.0-liter six cylinder engine used in X5 and X6 M. BMW is expanding its M performance badge and these models will be a huge boost to its range. X4 will be produced along with the second generation X3 as BMW’s extensive Spartanburg, S.C., manufacturing plant. BMW has already made plans to expand this sight as it also produced the X5 and X6.
