Five Ways To Fill Up Space Without Making It Look Like You're Filling Up Space
It's around this time of year when all the papers you should have been working on all year long are coming due. With finals coming up to study for, sometimes you just need to get these papers done! Thankfully, there are a few conspicuous ways to fill up space in a paper without revealing your true intentions. Apply any or all of these five methods and you will find that worries of how to meet those outrageous paper length requirements are a thing of the past!
1. Use of Quotes
With a little bit of research, you can effortlessly find quotes from relevant people no matter what your topic is. Quotes not only take up space, but they also add a lot to your paper as they can help to explain parts of your topic, support your thesis and more. Try to stay in the realm of relevancy, though. If your paper were on Sigmund Freud for example, you would want to try and get quotes from Freud himself or other famous psychologists and authors about his work. You would want to stay away from random Internet kiddies giving their opinion on his work.
2. Use of Scenarios
This is a technique hat takes some skill to master, ...
... but once you do, it can become a natural extension of your writing and help you to fill relevant space with ease. The basic idea is to make a point, and then use some sort of scenario, real or imagined to demonstrate this point. Let's say you were discussing the economic impacts of socialism on America. You could write something like, "One can imagine breaking a leg and having to be put on a surgery waiting list a month long!"
3. Use of Examples
This technique is a lot like using scenarios, except it is done in a different way. Rather than painting the reader a picture of what something might look like, you will be providing a real like example of your topic. If your paper is on Julius Caesar, you might say something like, "Caesar was an excellent military commander. Take for example, the battle he waged against the Gauls"
4. Topic Prefacing
This technique needs to be done with tact, but under the right circumstances it can both take up space and add substance to your paper. Topic prefacing is when you explain relevant information that the reader needs to be aware of before going into your next topic. If your paper is on the effects of alternative medicines on a certain disease, you might say something like, "Before exploring these benefits, it is essential to understand the nature of this disease, and why current traditional medication fails to properly treat it."
5. Topic Summarizing
Summarizing is a technique that ties together what the reader has just read. Think of topic summarizing as a mini conclusion to each topic. Keeping with the example from number above, topic summarizing could be done by saying something like, "As we have just seen, alternative medicine is beneficial in treating this condition because of"
