They also decide on the living arrangements that are suitable for the elderly and inform their patients and the families about end-of-life care. There are geriatricians who work in nursing homes, while others visit the elderly in assisted living facilities. In 2004, the estimated median salary of a geriatrician was $167,000. In terms of work environment and conditions, a geriatrician may work in medical facilities with long, irregular working hours.

In terms of educational requirements, these medical professionals need to undergo a long educational path. After completing a bachelor's degree, they need to proceed to a 4-year of education and training in medical school. The residency period can last for about 3 to 8 years. In order to gain a license, they need to pass and go through the United States Medical Licensing Examination.

In terms of benefits and insurance, self-employed geriatricians are the ones who arrange their benefits. On the other hand, those who work in hospitals and clinics are provided with health insurance, retirement plans, and paid vacations and holidays. So if you want to look for geriatrics jobs, you can decide whether to work as self-employed or not. In addition, this type of career requires you to be patient enough to deal with the elderly and establish a relationship with them.
