Heat Zones Of The Earth
Introduction to Heat Zones of the Earth
Heat zones of the earth are the three significantly different temperature zones of the earth. These were first categorized by Greek Scholar Aristotle. Although some of Aristotle’s hypothesis’ about heat zones have been proved incorrect, the very existence of heat zones is accepted by scientists’ world over.
Heat Zones of the Earth
The three major heat zones of the earth are Temperate zone, the Torrid Zone and the Frigid Zone. These are based on the distance they have from equator. However these can be reclassified as
The North Frigid Zone, lies north of the Arctic Circle
The North Temperate Zone, which lies between the Arctic Circle and the Tropic of Cancer
The Torrid Zone, lies between the Tropical Circles
The South Temperate Zone, which lies between the Tropic of Capricorn and the Antarctic Circle
The South Frigid Zone, lies to the south of the Antarctic Circle
Heat Zones of the Earth 1
Torrid Zone-the Hottest Heat Zone of the Earth
The region that lies from the Tropic of Cancer (23.5°) in the north, ...
... across equator (0°), to the Tropic of Capricorn (23.5°) in the south was considered the "Torrid Zone." This zone was considered uninhabitable due to high temperature, however great civilizations like India, Latin America, and Southeast Asia have developed and existed in these regions since ancient times.
Frigid Zone- the Coldest Heat Zone of the Earth
The area that lies to the north of Arctic Circle (66.5° north) and to the south of the Antarctic Circle (66.5° south) is permanently frozen. These areas are frozen for most parts of the year and there is no sunlight for most months of the year. However it has been found that these areas also were inhabited by people. A good example is the world's largest city Murmansk, Russia, north of the Arctic Circle, which has almost half a million population continues to flourish in this Frigid Zone.
Temperate Zone- the Habitable Heat Zone of the Earth
This area was considered worth creating a habitat and the one that can allow human civilization to grow. There are two Temperate Zones that lie between the Tropics of Arctic and Antarctic Circles. These regions have moderate, tolerable temperature and this is the most inhabited region on earth.
Conclusion to Heat Zone of the Earth
This division of Earth into different heat zones helps in understanding the climate changes and to study weather conditions. People in these different heat zones have adapted to the habitat differently and this is a classic example of how man has evolved and adjusted with the natural conditions and flourished.
The fact that the stars, sun, and planets appear to revolve around the Earth each day, with the stars circling around the pole and those stars nearer the equator rising and setting each day and circling back to their rising point proves that earth is not the center of the solar system.
Our earth is one of the 8 planets in the solar system which has our sun at its center. There are billions of stars much bigger than our sun in our galaxy itself.Adding to that, there are billions of galaxies like this containing billions of stars and planets and moons in the universe, not to speak of many other things which we are not aware of about the universe. In the entire scheme of things, our earth is but a tiny speck worthless of mention. This fact is supported by the size of the universe which is about 13.7 billion light years. That means that if one travels with the speed of light at 300,000 km/second for 13.7 billion years then we would probably reach the end of the universe.
