It may be quite annoying to have road grime on your back during rains from a wet ride. This is why you should get the addition of clip-on or full, mounted fenders. These may differ depending on the type of bicycle or bike trainer involved. These are extremely useful as they do more than just keep the stripe off your back. Whether it is daily commute by bike or one of rides in rough weather, these will take care of you and your bike.
First of all it offers protection for the rider by acting as a rain gear. It is a great way to deter rear wheel spray from reaching you. If you opt for a more comprehensive fender, it may also protect your face. Mainly, this rain protective gear makes a tremendous difference when you are riding on roads that are wet from drizzle, recent rain, or snowmelt.
When it comes to the bike, these items protect your chain, brakes, derailleur and headset from being rusted, corroded or ruined due to grime. Bike fenders will protect your body ...
... and bicycle from the mud and sand kicked up from dirty puddles and rivulets.
There are many different types of fenders that you may use for your bike. Based on the kind of bike, size and its use you may pick from any of the below:
Full-length Fenders
As the name suggests these cover the entire tire and offer utmost protection. It starts from the chain stays right up to the rear tire, almost reaching straight down at the back. If you buy a good quality full length fender then they may have two pairs of stays that take care and support the rear part in position, while being connected with the seat stay and chain stay bridges.
Clip On Fenders
These are detachable clips and very convenient to use, as they may be detachable or in most cases short and light. These do not add a lot of weight to the bike. It usually has a flat plate at the rear end that may deter grime to fall on your back. But these are not as effective when it comes to protect the bike itself. In addition to this, new bicycles do not really support these kinds of fenders.
Whichever type of fender you pick, you are sure to have less maintenance for your bike. So whether you add a bottle cage to it or a fancy basket, these fenders will ensure that they protect your bike accessories.
