Same Day Jaipur Tour
Jaipur capital of Rajasthan is popularly known as the ‘pink city’ because of the pink-coloured buildings in its old city. It sits on a dry lake bed in a somewhat arid landscape, surrounded by barren hills surmounted by forts and crenellated walls. This buzzing metropolis is certainly a place of wild contrasts and a feast for the eyes.
Major Attractions of Jaipur:
AMBER FORT:
About 11 km north of Jaipur, on the Delhi-Jaipur road, is Amber, the ancient capital of Jaipur state. The ancient capital of Jaipur state. Construction of the fort –palace was begun in 1592 by Maharaja Man Singh, the Rajput commander of Akbar’s army. It was later extended and completed by the Jai Singh before the move to Jaipur on the plains below, the fort is a superb example of Rajput architecture, stunningly situated on a hillside and overlooking a lake which reflects its terraces and ramparts. You can climb up to the fort from the road in about 10 minutes. An imposing stairway leads to the Diwan-i-Am, or Hall of Public Audience, with double row of columns and latticed galleries above. Steps to the right lead to the small Kali ...
... Temple.
JAIGARH FORT:
Jaigarh fort, located around 15 km from Jaipur, is one of the most spectacular forts in India, with almost all its original facilities intact. While Jaigarh fort is on top of the hill, Amber fort is at the bottom. The forts are connected through well-guarded passages. Many consider the two together as one complex.
Jaigarh Fort was a center of artillery production for the Rajputs and it is home to the world’s largest cannon on wheels, the Jaivana. The foundries provide fascinating information for the visitors. The manner in which they drew in blasts of air from the desert is most intriguing. A 5 km long canal can be seen entering the fort complex to bring in water from the high hills and stor in the fort for the army men.
JANTAR MANTAR:
The Jantar Mantar is a collection of architectural astronomical instruments, build by Maharaja Jai Singh II at his then new capital of Jaipur between 1727 and 1733.It is modeled after the one that he had built for him at the then Mughal capital of Delhi. He had constructed a total of five such labs at different locations, including the ones at Delhi and Jaipur. The Jaipur observatory is the largest of these.
HAWA MAHAL:
Constructed in 1799, the Hawa Mahal, or Palace of Winds, is one of Jaipur’s major landmarks, although it is actually little more than a façade.
Located at Sierh Deori bazar, Hawa Mahal, literally the Palace of Winds, built in 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh, displays fanciful architecture and is a remarkable landmark of Jaipur. So named because the palace has specially latticed screens and arches for an unbridled flow of the air currents but is a set pattern with the passage of the sun. Till the recent past, ladies of the court from within he palace positioned themselves by the balconies to watch processions passing through in the streets below without themselves being observed by the people.
