A Long Way To Go With Excellent Reading Skills
Reading a very simple word yet means a lot and a person’s excellent reading skills can take them a long way in life. The literal meaning of reading is not just to say aloud what is written rather to read out anything with freedom, fluency and confidence, to mentally interact with the message and understand it completely. It is crucial to be aware of why is reading so important for us and our children. Especially for children as they are in their growing years, it will be easy for them to grasp this; but how to develop these skills in children? And what about the children who have some or the other disorders and face problems in academics? Technologically man has grown so much that there is a way for almost every disorder people are suffering from.
Even though the life of a parent is chaotic but one should try to take time out to spend reading aloud with the child at a specific decided time. If one cannot spare time to accompany your children in reading, give them story books according to their interests and likeness and talk to them about every story. They will not only master their reading but also will learn to communicate ...
... well and learn lessons about life as well. But you have to be patient.
The main motive of a parent is to motivate children regularly so as to make a child read independently and become fluent readers. Reading is more than just a practice. Through it we can gain knowledge relax ourselves and enjoy some precious moments.
But if parents are smart, their children are smarter. Some will do as instructed by their elders and some of them have an endless list of reasons for not reading. Parents don’t have to nag children or bribe them rather inculcate some child reading skills that can encourage them:
Start with what they like, give them books of their interest.
Let your children see you reading in your free time.
Put down all types of reading materials in your room or anyplace at your home.
On special occasions, give books and magazines as presents of their interests.
Try to limit your children’s television viewing but never use reading for giving punishments. This may affect adversely.
So, the basic idea of having your child inculcate this habit of reading is to be patient and not to over burden the child with this. Gradually make him or her accept this. Reading practice will be of a great help to in the child may it be in academics or greeting someone or in future in any profession he/ opts for.
Take your child to mental boot camps. The basic idea of these boot camps is to motivate the child and try to divert the child’s mind to everything positive. They help them to view and accept whatever comes in life in a very positive manner.
The best way to let your child adapt reading as a day to day activity is to read aloud to your children and talk to them. To know more about child reading skills and mental boot camps visit www.thinkersed.com.
