Wiltshire is a county in South West England. Its neighbouring counties are Hampshire, Berkshire, Dorset and Somerset. It has twenty one towns, Chippenham, Salisbury, Wilton and Bradford on Avon to mention a handful.



In the heart of South West England, Wiltshire offers many attractions that make it a desirable place to visit. There are a lot of country parks, museums, cathedrals and historic houses. The most lively places in Wiltshire are Swindon and Salisbury, however, if quieter places are more to your taste, there are many rural retreats deep in the countryside. During recent years the overall population of Wiltshire has rapidly increased, this is partly due to the influx of new housing developments that have been built in recent times.



Stonehenge is not just one of Wiltshire's most recognised landmarks but one of the world's most recognised landmarks. Stonehenge is an monument made up of large standing stones set in a circular formation. To gain access to Wiltshire there are a lot of transport links that make it an easy destination to reach. There are five main roads running through Wiltshire, they are the A4, M4, A303, A350 and A417. As well as main roads there are a wide range of public transport links available to you. There are also 6 airports within a close proximity of Wiltshire, one of which is London Heathrow, the third busiest airport in the world.



Chippenham is the most populated town situated in Wiltshire, it is situated between The Cotswolds to the North and West, Marlborough Downs to the East, and Salisbury Plain to the South. For night life there are many different bars, clubs and pubs that are available, such as E11vens, Karma, The Pheasant Carvery, The Rose & Crown and The Bridge House. Just like the rest of Wiltshire there are many places to stay, such as hotels, inns and bed and breakfast Chippenham.

Salisbury is another of the largest cities in Wiltshire, it has a population of nearly 40,000 people. It is most recognised for its medieval cathedral. The Cathedral of Saint Mary, most commonly known as Salisbury Cathedral, is considered one of the leading examples of early English architecture. It took 100 years for the cathedral to be built back in 1220. In the United Kingdom the Salisbury Cathedral has the tallest church spire, as well as also having the world's oldest clock dating back to AD 1386.



Swindon is another of the large towns that is situated in Wiltshire, it is midway between Bristol and Reading. There are a lot of events that are held yearly; the annual gay pride parade known as Swindon and Wiltshire Pride sees approximately 8,000 people attend. The event has seen acts such as Basshunter perform at the celebrations. Swindon also has a successful football team, led by popular manager Paolo Di Canio.
