Plastic bags are one of the biggest applications of plastics today. And almost no other plastic product is as ubiquitous as plastic carry bags. Similarly, black or green garbage bags have become widespread for convenient storage and disposal of garbage.

In use by consumers worldwide since the 1960s, plastic carry bags are generally made of various types of polyethylene such as LDPE and HDPE. Modern plastic carry bags are increasingly recyclable or biodegradable.

But recycling plastics has problems of its own.

First and foremost, recycled polymers invariably have poorer physical properties compared to the virgin polymers.

Second, the polymer and filler, or even polymers from two different sources do not meld with each other easily.

This forces the manufacturers to try out various additives in order to maintain their products' quality despite the increased filler loading in their products but the results often fall short of the expectations.
