Water is the basis of all living beings in some or the other form. While most of us consume it and use it for daily activities, it may also help us indirectly by being useful in the manufacturing process. However, for consumption, agriculture and production the water used has to be non polluted and pure. Often, due to impurities in the water these process are affected and its result could be an epidemic, stunted crop growth and rusted machines. This is why it is necessary to test water before using it.

One of the essential chemical components in the natural elements found in water is phosphorus and phosphate. Regular housing items like fertilizer, detergents and sewage too have phosphates, which may add in the water causing high levels of contamination. And unlike other impurities, this is actually one of the main components for regulating normal growth in plants and animals. But a high level of the same could mean promotion of excessive algal growth, a water quality hazard. Thus, it becomes essential that phosphate testing ...
... is carried out before the consumption of water from pools, lakes, ponds, etc.

Phosphate tests are carried out in many ways and the most common of them is to use a stick that shows the different level of this contaminant in water. This is how it works. Essentially, the stick shows different colors when in contact with the liquid sample. This color depends on the level of contaminant in the solution, in this care phosphate. Another method would be introducing an indicator solution in the sample of water; this solution to changes color as per the level of water impurity.

Phosphate test kits would not be standard for all water types and quantities. While the testing procedure may be the same you may need to order kits that fit your needs or may be even customize them. This depends mainly on what is being measured for instance a pool or a lake. Often kits may have different indicators for showing results, especially if using sticks and solutions. This is why you must read the instruction beforehand to know the exact color variations and safe or unsafe levels. Even if you do find the water sample in safe zone, it is best to check at the source for absolute clarity.

Most of these test kits are portable and easy to use; hence you may take it near the water source for faster determination. It’s best to carry a few kits together, so that you may get accurate results.
