Histogram analysis:

The graphical representation of tabular frequencies are known as Histograms in statistics. It looks like a set of adjacent rectangles that stand vertically over an interval, the area being equal to the frequency of interval. The height of the rectangles is always equal to the frequency density of the interval.

Histogram Analysis is widely used for estimation of density and plotting the density of data. Histogram Analysis is a very important tool for comparison of performances and finding out the variation in results. Histogram Analysis as a tool is widely used when large sets of data are to represented graphically. It also helps in understanding the effectiveness of the methods employed by people for achieving the desired results.

Histogram Analysis as a tool helps in communicating information graphically in a very effective manner. The different types of shapes, sizes and color hold meanings which ultimately help us in the decision making process.

Example Problem for Histogram Analysis.

Example1:
Construct the histogram for the given data

Subject Science ...
... Maths Social English

Marks 80 90 60 75

Solution:

Here in the table, student marks scored in different subjects are given
We take a data subjects in x axis and marks in y axis

Histogram Analysis-parts of a Histogram.

After solving the above example, it is extremely vital for us to know the various parts of a Histogram. A Histogram consists of five parts -

1)The Title : The information that is contained by the histogram is briefly described by the Title.

2) Bars : It is important for us to know that the bars have two very vital characteristics, namely - height and width. The height explains the number of occurrences of values within an interval. Whereas, the length of the interval covered by the bar is indicated by the width.

3) Horizontal X-Axis - It distinctly represents the scale of values into which the measurements fit. These are further grouped into intervals to summarize the set of data in an easier manner.

4) Vertical Y-Axis - It represents the number of occurrences of values within an interval. The number of occurrences is also referred to as "frequencies."

5) Legend - It is a detailed explanation of the source of the data and how measurements were gathered.

Histogram Analysis-conclusion

Histogram Analysis is a medium through which we can understand whether or not the processes adopted by us are producing desired results or not. It helps us in identifying the stability of our processes. It helps us in discovering the areas of variation and adopt control measures accordingly.

In the modern era, the horizon of use of histograms has widened dramatically. Its just not about representing the performance of a company in a conference room. Now a days, Histogram Analysis has become a very crucial part of digital photography. And as time passes by, the use of Histogram Analysis will increase substantially.
