Carry bags are one of the biggest applications of plastics today. And almost no other plastic product is as ubiquitous as plastic carry bags.

In use by consumers worldwide since the 1960s, plastic carry bags are generally made of various types of polyethylene such as LDPE and HDPE.

These bags are also called single-use bags, referring to carrying items from a store to a home before trashing the bag. However, modern plastic carry bags are increasingly recyclable or biodegradable.

However, this increase in recycling has its own negative points.

Recycling generally reduces the physical properties of a polymer, such as its mechanical strength and its ability to withstand impact.

Obviously, these properties are crucial for carry bag manufacturers, but rising prices of virgin polymer and the lure of cutting costs with recycled polymer often has most plastic processors in a fix.

Also, recycling process leads to moisture buildup in the plastic which can cause severe surface defects in end products if left untreated.

For carry bags, which are often only a few microns thick, surface defects ...
... such as bubbles and fisheyes spell major problems as these not only reduce the aesthetics of the bags but also severely degrade the useability.

The manufacturers not only want to cut the costs by using more and more recycled polymers but also want the quality of their products to remain unaffected. This is where plastic additives for film manufacturing have a very important role to play.

Additives like dispersion agents are used to homogenize the polymer mixture and enhance the strength while desiccants are added to the mixture to remove moisture and improve surface finish.

One of India's leading manufacturers of plastic additives, Vin Industries has developed high performance additives which specifically target this section of plastic processors.

Vin Industries' ChamakShakti and StrengtheX are additives designed to solve the problems of moisture and poor physical properties of carry bags made from recycled polymers in one go.

Both have superior quality dispersion agents which homogenize the polymer mixture, bringing down the melt viscosity and increasing the strength and production rate. Further, the two additives act as powerful desiccants and efficiently eliminate moisture related surface defects.

According to the company's product specialists, the additives give plastic processors of every pocket a choice of using the additive best suited for their needs and budgets.

“Our additives are top notch in quality and we want to extend our plastic processing solutions to every processor, whether it is a big manufacturer or a small scale entrepreneur,” said Rohit Mahajan, product specialist at Vin.

“Also, these additives are not limited to carry bags alone, so the processors can choose which additive fits the bill for their product range,” Mahajan added.
