There are different forms of martial arts. It can be difficult to choose which style of martial arts you want to start learning. With hundreds of different styles and disciplines to choose from, it can be confusing to determine which style will best suit your needs. If you are interested in martial arts, it is important that you research the different styles of martial arts. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Judo, Karate, Kung Fu and Taekwondo are the major form of martial arts. Among all, Taekwondo or TKD is the most popular and is being practiced across the world. The popularity of TKD is vivid as it combines combat techniques, self-defense, sport, exercise and in some cases meditation and philosophy too.

Taekwondo is considered by many to be an ideal combat technique as it combines most elements sought after in a good self defense technique. TKD is known as best workout activity as it involves lot of exercise and body movements along with balanced fitness program. Often translated in modern terms as "the way of the hand and foot," Taekwondo is a Korean form of martial arts that combines rapid hand and foot movements, kicks and spins.

Tae kwon do ...
... is a form that uses kicking and punching techniques. TKD is highly known for its intricate kicking techniques which is what separates itself from other styles such as Karate or Kung Fu. TKD is comprised of three distinct parts "Tae-Kwon-Do", however, it's made up of only one word in Korean. "Tae" means "foot," "to step on," or "leg"; "Kwon" means "fight," or "fist"; and "Do" means the "way" or "discipline." If we put these three parts together, we can see an actual meaning of the combat technique. The idea behind TKD is to use your most powerful part of your body i.e. leg to kick against the enemy. The use of hand is also being taught for punching and block while defense. Unlike judo and other forms of martial arts taekwondo is a KICK ASS sport. It is all about KICKS. It is known for its emphasis on kicking techniques, which distinguishes it from other martial arts forms such as karate and kung fu.

Organizations such as WTF (World Taekwondo Federation) and ITF (International Tae-kwon-Do Federation) are the governing bodies of this martial art form and formulate and safeguard the rules and fighting styles all over the world. Under the guidance of these organizations several academies have been started. TKD is an Olympic sport now since 2000.

Along with great fighting technique, it is a well rounded exercise program that encompasses muscle toning, stretching and flexibility, increasing strength and stamina, running and other exercises. Most classes of TKD start out with warm-ups section. These exercises includes running, push ups, sit ups, jumping jacks, trunk rotations, squat kicks, knuckles, and various leg stretches. Not only aerobics, it also includes meditation. It has been considered that before starting TKD, it is important to dedicate yourself to it and complete focus is required. TKD is so much easy to learn if you are determined.
