At one time, Network Inventory was a tedius task for IT professionals. It meant visiting each PC or buying expensive PC Auditing tools. Nowadays, software such as NEWT Professional make projects like PC Inventory, Network Management, Computer Audits, PC Audits and basic Software Asset Management as simple as a few clicks of the mouse.
In the world of Information Technology, it can be daunting to search for the right Network Inventory Software. NEWT Professional by Komodo Labs, launched 7 years ago, has been developed continuously. The most recent update gathers information 5000% (50 times), much faster than before just a few years ago: scanning 100 Computers in about 5 minutes, and with very low bandwidth usage.
There are two main ways to perform network inventory, each having its own pros and cons. These are agent and agentless. Agent-based software must somehow be copied to computer to scan, and with some solutions, manually updated. Agentless methods are often met with security issues, frequently requiring visiting each ...
... computer to change settings and eliminate remote access issues. NEWT Professional uses a hybrid-style process, giving you the best of both words while reducing disadvantages and making Total Network Inventory clear. NEWT's method eliminates the need to install agents manually. This is quick and transparently to the user, and it is what gives NEWT it's speed and granular auditing abilities. Agentless techniques suffer from WMI problems or remote registry issues, but NEWT Professional gets around these, needing much fewer or no modifications at all.
NEWT gathers all regular PC Audit data, for example product keys, CPU type, operating-system, computer and monitor serial numbers, software inventory, memory, printers, hard disk drives, etc. Additionally, it gives you more in-depth information, unprovided by competiting software. These include things like CPU temperature, hard disk type (IDE versus SATA/SATA-II/SATA-III), plus the manufacturer and serial number each memory module. These are impossible to identify agentlessly. The monitor's display type is even identified as LCD or CRT, a feature not available in other software. This is often valuable when carrying out video monitor upgrades from CRT to LCD, for instance. And we're adding new types of detection all the time.
NEWT Professional is a Free Download at the Komodo Lab's website. The demo is basically the same software, but is restricted to 25 computers. Because of the ability to scan as many as 25 nodes at a time, NEWT Professional allows Managed Service Providers (MSPs) startups, along with other small organizations, full use of the application for free, without expiration. Komodo Laboratories is devoted to the concept that small organizations deserve a totally free Network Scanning product. Our competition makes you buy a 25 PC license. NEWT even includes 25 extra nodes free with each new license purchase. For instance, a 50 node purchase includes 75 total nodes, a 100 node license, for example, gives one 125 nodes.
