Discover How To Prevent Dachshund Back Issues By Utilizing The Correct Leash
I get really concerned about Dachshund back problems when I see a dog, on a leash, pulling to the point that they are hacking and choking.
Have you any idea how detrimental this could be to a Dachshund's health? The damage to the windpipe and neck area of a Dachshund is really bad. This could very easily result in back problems and breathing problems.
A collar leash seems to be the problem area for a lot of this type of bad behavior.
Try this little experiment to see how much damage can be done. Put a towel around your neck and have someone hold it while you try to move in the opposite direction. If you did this 2 or 3 times a day, you can see how much damage you could do.
A Dachshund that has this much pressure put on its' neck and back everyday will surely develop back problems in the future.
My Dachshund injured her back when she was allowed to be unrestrained in the back seat of my car. Fortunately for me, she only had a bad sprain in her neck and didn't have a break.
Walking was a big part of her life and she wanted to start again as she improved. ...
... Her collar leash couldn't be used then because of the delicate neck.
A collar leash was out, but what was in, a harness leash seemed to be the answer.
While looking into the alternatives I had almost settled on a harness leash, when I saw an old western movie on TV.
The farmer was plowing his field with two horses that were connected to his plow by harnesses. The harness seemed to do the trick of putting th stress on the horses chests and not on their necks.
This appeared to be the answer for my dog.
The harness I purchased, slips over her head then under each leg, with a fabric square that rested on her chest. The pressure was spread out over her chest area and under her legs. She gave no indication of pain and best of all she didn't choke or hack and she didn't try to pull away.
I feel comfortable now taking Nellie for her walks and she seems to enjoy the fact that she now has a harness leash.
Don't risk the possibility of giving your Dachshund back or neck problems because you are using the wrong kind of leash. Windpipe damage is just one of the problems a collar leash can cause. A collar leash can create upward pressure that will injure the neck area. Do your Dachshund a favor by using a harness leash, when out for a walk.
