Khori means cave.Shiv Khori Shrine Cave is now emerging as the second largest pilgrimage destination after Shri Mata Vaishni Devi Shrine in the Reasi district.Shivkhori in Kashmir attracts lakhs of devotees every year. The cave gains special significance during the Maha Shivratri festival. During this festival a big fair is organized near the temple. Shiv devotees throng this cave at the time of the festival to catch a glimpse of the holy lingam.The cave is full of a number of other natural objects that have their resemblance with Goddess Parvati, Ganesha and Nandigan. The roof of the cave has snake formations on it and the water from these formations trickles on Shiva Lingam. Pigeons can also be seen here, like one can see at the Swami Amar Nath cave and these pigeons present good omens for pilgrimages.The cave roof is etched with snake like formations, the water trickles through these in the cave. ‘Three pronged lance' depicting the Trident (Trishul) of Lord Shiva and ‘Six Mouthed Sheshnaga' are also seen on the roof of the cave. This holy cave is nearly a kilometre long and houses a 4 ft high, naturally formed ‘Shivling'. It is considered second only to the shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi in religious importance. There are stalactites and stalagmites dripping milky limestone water.People have to traverse about 3 km on foot on a track recently constructed by the Shiv Khori Shrine Board, Ransoo duly headed by the District Development Commissioner, Udhampur as chairman and Sub Divisional Magistrate, Reasi as Member Secretary.The Shiv Khori Shrine Board is continuously striving hard to develop high-level infrastructure and facilities for the visiting pilgrims to make the yatra a memorable and satisfying period.The first, known as The AmarKatha Legend, credits the discovery of Shiv Khori cave to a Muslim shepherd. The shepherd was scouting the area, in search of his missing lamb, when he chanced upon the cave. He found a large number of saints inside the cave, who had achieved various stages of spiritual attainment and joined them in worshipping Lord Shiva, whose divine powers impressed them all. He made a promise to the saints that he would never reveal this cave to anyone, but against his promise, he went on to inform the locals about it.

Shivkhori is a famous cave shrine of Hindus devoted to lord Shiva, situated in district Udhampur of Jammu and Kashmir state in India.The cave is a real wonder to be seen which according to the people is unending and believed to have led to Swami Amar Nath cave in Kashmir.the shivlingam a cow like formation is visible believe to be Kamdhenu and can be identified by her udders. The natural water dripping from nipples of udders on the Shivlingum symbolizes the eternity of the holy river Ganga. It is believed that milk used to ooze out during old days but turned into water in Kaliyuga. Infront of the Mahakali on other wall of cave, natural rock image of Lord Shiva lieing down on floor is visible. A holy foot of Maa Kali is also visible on body of lord shiva. The whole environment inside the cave is so mesmerizing that a devotee feel himself.The architects of "His Majesty" carved the impressions of Sheshnaag on the ceilings of the cave. In the center of the cave is a hollow that gives an effect like that of Lord Shiva's "Jatta". Also surrounding the Shivalinga are self-made "saligrams".. The cave gains special significance during the Maha Shivratri festival. During this festival a big fair is organized near the temple.
