How To Clean A Furnace
Cleaning a furnace is a pretty important and simple task that you need to consider before and after the winter months - time when the furnace is most used. A dirty furnace will make your environment unhealthy and make you busy cleaning and dusting your home all day that would be a much greater effort. There are two kinds of filters that you use at home furnace; permanent and temporary. Both types can be cleaned using the following techniques.First of all when you decide to clean your furnace, you need to make a list of the things you need. Bring a screwdriver to open the panel, a disposable filter to replace the old one, and a number of sponges, cotton swabs and tooth picks. However the most important thing that you need is a good vacuum cleaner so that you can get rid of all the dust and dirt particles. The most suitable vacuum cleaner is one with the detachable assembly. The rigid one will not serve the purpose of cleaning. Now before beginning make sure the power supply is off.
This will prevent any accidents due to electricity. Although some people say that since you are not doing anything to the wires, its safe ...
... to continue without it but prevention is better than cure. Than hold a screwdriver and remove the screws to remove the front panel. Clean the panel in hand so that it is not dirty. This reveals your filter, in case of temporary or disposable filter you don’t need to exert any extra effort just replace it with a new one and put the panel back. But the things are just not that simple for permanent filters. Vacuum your filter with the help of a vacuum cleaner. If there are any stubborn dust particles than use a scrub or sponge for it. In case of permanent filter remove it and then use a water hose to clean off the dust. Remember to keep your mouth and nose covered with a mask to ward off any extra dust entering your throat.
Health is more important than any other things. After you have cleaned your filter allow it to dry in the open air. Most of the permanent filters have holes in them that make the drying process quicker. Meanwhile use brushes, scrub and sponge to clean rest of the furnace. In case if you have any particles stuck at places that are resistant to the ritual cleaning, use toothpicks to get rid of them. You can also clean the motor assembly and the blower apparatus if you want but be cautious that you don’t spray the water everywhere in the furnace, because electrical appliances usually lose life if water enters their motor system. After you are done with all the inside cleaning and your filter is dry, place all the things back at their proper positions. Don’t ever put a damp filter inside. Put the cover back by screwing it up and enjoy clean atmosphere.
