The island of Barbados, located on the eastern portion of the Caribbean, is an exciting travel destination for the adventurous traveler, as well as for the whole family. Its closest island neighbors are Saint Vincent & the Grenadines and Saint Lucia to the west. To the south lies Trinidad and Tobago. It's a perfect destination for those who wish to tug along their kids and have fun with the family. The island's lovely stretches of pink- and white-sand beaches, as well as its unique culture, customs and traditions, are great for those who want to have fun and learn about other cultures as well. For those who wish to tug their families along, it's nice knowing that the island doesn't offer casinos, but has a wide sprinkling of family-oriented hotels, inns, apartments and other facilities that cater to those who bring their kids along.

As the island is historically famous for being a former haven for pirates and other adventurers, you and your family will surely have a great time visiting the island's many historical attractions and places of interest. Barbados is well-known for its rich and colorful history, ...
... and one will notice it on the many historic buildings that are well-preserved for those who want to get a better insight of the island's interesting past. Your family could go drop by the Barbados Museum, George Washington House, Parliament Building, Sam Lord's castle, Lancaster Great House Gallery & Gardens and Sir Frank Hutson Sugar Museum to take a close glimpse of the island's colonial past. You may also wish to head off to one of the area's plantation houses and see how it felt to live like in the 17th or 18th centuries. Your kids could also join you in visiting the island's numerous old lighthouses like South Point Lighthouse, as well as trek to historic towns which served as both trading areas and hideouts of notorious pirates and other notable personalities.

The island's beaches are also impressive destinations for the family. The Dockyard is among the best family beaches in this part of the Caribbean. It offers pristine, clean white sand and crystal-clear waters. The area is also not too cramped or crowded, offering you better space to play with your spouse and kids. It also offers facilities like the Rope swing-off pier and water trampoline for safe outdoor kiddie activities. The Dockyard also has a lovely beachfront restaurant; where parents can relax, have a few drinks and watch their kids frolic and play in the sand. Bridgetown is also considered as a truly family-friendly beach destination. Located just a short taxi ride from the cruise piers, this beach destination is superb for those wish to spend a full day, or probably even a half-day at a beach. Here, parents and their children can do snorkeling, see the turtles and exotic fishes, view a shipwreck, or simply lie on the sand or hammock and relax.

The island of Barbados is still considered as a relatively safe tourist destination, despite reports of the rise in petty crimes in the recent years. What's notable is that the residents of this island are generally welcoming of foreign tourists, and have a very hospitable culture as well. The island is also known for having a well-developed infrastructure, making road travel from one point to the other much safer and comfortable. The wide variety of hotels and tourist residences offer world-class amenities, and there are also establishments that cater to budget travelers. The island' southern and western coasts are popular areas, wherein one will have lovely views of the calm, light blue Atlantic Ocean, as well as for its pristine pinkish white-sand beaches.
