Copenhagen, Denmark: Tourism Information
Copenhagen, the royal capital of Denmark with over 1.1 million inhabitants is one of Europe's oldest and most wonderful capitals. The city's location in the most dynamic region of Northern Europe, the Øresund Region, makes a visit even more exciting.
Discover the royal capital by strolling along the streets and canals from the 17th century. Visit one of many museums with international or local exhibitions. Shop Danish design and taste some of the delicious dishes from the Danish kitchen.
There's no end of things to do and public transportations including the fixed link between Copenhagen and Malmö, Sweden, makes it easy to travel round and about and discover Copenhagen and its surroundings.
Food and Drink
In the friendly, cultural and cosy, but also trendy atmosphere of Copenhagen, drinking, eating and meeting is never a problem. You will find restaurants with all the world's kitchen, but don't forget to visit a genuine Danish "kro" to taste Danish specialities like smørrebrød, (open sandwiches) pølser, (hot dogs) and frikadeller, (meatballs) ...
... all perfect to match a cold beer.
Nightlife
Copenhagen is a swinging city almost around the clock. But if you want to rock 'n' roll, you have to wait till midnight when most nightclubs wake up. Until then, do as the Copenhageners, go to a bar or café for some "hygge".
Whether you like live music, trendy, cosy or genuine places, Copenhagen's nightlife has something for you. Many places keep on swinging till dawn. If you go to a fancy nightclub, dress code is international, and if you feel like a tuxedo, that's OK. Otherwise Danes tend to dress down a bit.
Many of Copenhagen's cafés, bars, restaurants and clubs change character from bar to café etc. during a 24-hour period - an experience you don't want to miss! One of those so called hybrid-bars is Aura at Nytorv.
Shopping
Copenhagen is a great place for shopping. Besides offering a great classic shopping, the Danes are famous for their range of quality designed cloths, furnitures, glasswares, ceramics and jewelleries.
The inner city has lots of exciting and creative handcrafters and designers with small ateliers. One of the things that make Copenhagen so attractive for shoppers is that you can do the whole thing by foot.
Be sure you visit the pedestrian shopping street Strøget and Købmagergade with several small boutiques and the malls as Illum and Magasin. You can wander for hours and still find the shopping exciting.
