Temple Of Kotmogu, The Latest Pvp Zone For The World Of Warcraft
With the release of Mists of Pandaria, Blizzard is also releasing two brand new battleground, both of which are only available for players that have reached the new level cap, 90. One of these two battlegrounds is called the Temple of Kotmogu.
The Temple of Kotmogu introduces a new type of battleground play, something that Blizzard hasn't done in a very long time. Instead of just being a boring capture the flag or capture the node type game, the temple is being called a "powerball" 10v10 battleground by Blizzard,
But what does "powerball" really mean in the context of a battleground? Well, the two factions, Alliance and Horde start from opposite ends of the map, and in the center of the map is a large square structure. In each corner of this square structure is an "artifact" that players can pick up. Whenever a player is holding one of these orbs they receive a debuff that increases damage taken, much like the debuff given to the player by flags in Warsong Gulch.
This debuff is not the only thing given to the player while they hold the orb though, as every five seconds that a player holds one of the artifacts, ...
... they accumulate a small amount of points for their team's total, which needs to hit 1600 "victory" points to secure a team win.
The amount of "victory" points that a player receives for every five seconds is dependent on their location on the map. The closer the player is to the center of the map, where the most risk of dying is, the more points they get. In the dead center of the square, a player gets 5 points per tick, while along the outer edges, they only get 3 points per tick.
By balancing out distances and point gains, what Blizzard has done with this battleground is create something that relies more on teamwork than any battleground from the past. Trying to place the artifacts in your team's possession in the right places to keep them far enough apart while still maximizing the amount of points earned is going to challenge most randomly put together battleground groups, and protecting multiple artifacts at the same time will probably prove impossible. So, while this battleground may not be the best one to get randomly and be forced to do with total strangers, it should be great in a rated battleground environment.
