La Gomera comes second among the smallest Canary Islands and it is volcanic. It is occupied mainly by the national parks of Garajonay whose establishment was back in 1981 and is also a UNESCO World Heritage site. The climate around this area is wet and cool thereby giving way to laurel forests which are ancient and subtropical. The atmosphere is quiet and peaceful around the island and it could be the reason as to why a number of tourists love spending their holidays on the island.

Within the national park Garajonay there is a mountain with a peak towering 1487 meters making it the island’s highest point. When the weather is pleasant and clear, Atlantic Ocean and other Canary islands can be viewed from here beautifully. They include islands such as the Gran Canaria, Tenerife, La Palma and El Hierro. The mountain foot is made of a dense forest as well as tree heath and gale on the side that is drier.

The shrubs here grow quite high and they are of great value since they are used as materials for pipe production. This is because their timber is non-combustible. The northeastern and northern slopes are covered ...
... by laurel forests whose trees have shiny leaves and are solid and large.

La Gomera climate is amazingly cool compared to the rest of the islands but it is also very dry. The deep forests with a pleasant green provide relaxing grounds especially during the hotter days of the year.

The air around here is normally moist and cool and you will be amazed to find that it rains even during summer months. On the sunny parts of the island, you will find blooming beautiful flowers and high grown ferns. It is also home to thousands of palm trees and only on this island will you find such huge number of palm trees in all the Canary Islands.

The palms are used in producing sweet syrup that is edible with the help of their sap. The production is based on half of the palms found here since the rest are African palms. Also on the island you will find rocks, rock cones and numerous gorges which run deep down the sea. The Gran Rey valley is a beautiful sight worth checking out as well while here. It is an island with a very unique combination of everything natural and you will find interesting how different it can be one area to another.
