It takes about an hour to reach Coimbatore from Bangalore which is located at a distance of 228 km.
The nearest broad gauge railway station from Ooty is Mettupalayam at a distance of 46 km by road. Coimbatore is the nearest major railway junction. Some of the trains that ply from Bangalore to Mettupalayam include Kongu Express (12648), Bangalore City- Ernakulam Intercity Express (12677), Mumbai CST- Trivandrum Weekly Express (16331), Hubli- Kochuveli Weekly SF Express (12777), Rajkot- Coimbatore Express (16613), Bangalore- Kochuveli Tri-Weekly Express (16315), Bangalore- Ernakulam Weekly Superfast Express (22608) and Bangalore Thiruvanathapuram Weekly Express (16321). You can reach Ooty from Mettupalyam via road which takes about 2 hours or via the meter gauge train which takes about 5 hours.
The hill station is connected to all the major cities via road. The distance from Bangalore to Ooty by bus is about 310 km. There are both Government controlled and private run buses that ply from Bangalore to Ooty. The bus fare depends on the type of bus you select for your trip. You can also hire taxis with costs ranging from Rs. 6.50 per km to Rs. 11.50 km for various types of taxis.
