Barefoot Bowling Melbourne is the name given to the informal version of the game lawn bowls. While lawn bowls is played by professionals and is generally highly competitive barefoot bowls Melbourne is a more laid back game that is played by people more for fun and enjoyment rather than as a severely competitive sport. This does not mean that there is no competition involved, in fact quite a few companies take their employees bare foot bowling to engender a friendly yet competitive atmosphere amongst them.

Barefoot bowling Melbourne is a highly entertaining game where the objective is to get some big balls called as ‘bowls’ as close as possible to a smaller ball named ‘jack’. The game is played on really well manicured lawns or can also be enjoyed in synthetic greens. The entire play area is divided into parallel strips which are termed as ‘rinks’. The idea is to roll a bowl in such a manner that it hits the jack but does not come to rest outside the rink. The bowls are biased so that they follow a curved path. A bowl can curve out of the rink while rolling but at the end of the role should come to rest inside ...
... the rink for it to remain ‘alive’ in the game.

There are a number of variations to this game which make it all the more interesting. It can be played individually as well as a team. When there are teams involved it is often seen that players try to block the other team’s bowls rather than solely concentrating on hitting the jack. Trying to touch the jack in such a manner that it roles away from the oppositions bowls is another objective that is pursued in an attempt to win by teams. Barefoot bowls Melbourne as the name suggests should be played without any footwear. The lack of shoes is supposed to bring out the free spirit in you so that you can really get into the spirit of the game and enjoy it to the fullest. However, being barefoot is not absolutely essential even socks or flat thongs are allowed.

The game can be played on a convex surface as well. This variation is named as the Crown green bowling. The curved nature of the surface makes the game even more challenging inching the interest quotient hire. The green is very similar to a golf course with loads of ups and downs. This variation of the game is generally played with only two bowls being used by each team. The bowls were earlier biased by adding weights to any one side; however this has become illegal now. The bias is generally added by flattening the ball at any one end. Various degrees of biasing is possible, however there is a standard maximum and minimum limit of biasing which should not be crossed. The balls which come in all colors these days are marked in order to ascertain which team they belong to.
