Attributes When Wanting To Teach In Italy
Exam results are in and deciding what to do next might not be obvious. Sometimes taking some time out away from home can give some perspective on a situation. However, time can be wasted too, so ensure that there is a plan to the travel. Taking in a new country or culture often means all comfort blankets are left behind and a new improved you can be developed. It’s difficult to decide where to travel, but one country which is familiar yet culturally different is Italy. What makes Italy such a great option when choosing to be abroad is to teach in Italy means getting to know the people, and it’s this which makes it so special. When teaching English overseas jobs usually start in June, July, August and September. To take this opportunity you will need a few basic requirements to teach in Italy, these are:
Age Restrictions
A student who wants to teach in Italy must be over 18 years old, there is no upper age limit but it is important to note that if a student is under 20 years old additional insurance maybe ...
... required.
Passion
It’s important to like teaching, be enthusiastic about the language and culture. If the tutor or teacher is passionate about what they are conveying then the students will enjoy the lessons more and therefore in tern get more out of the lesson.
Organisation Skills
It’s confusing to the student if language learning isn’t structured and planned. It can also lead to mistakes in learning; a scatter gun approach has never been the best way to convey a message particularly a language. Methodical planning, organisation and catering lesson topics to the students will allow for a more productive learning experience.
Flexibility
Travelling and living abroad isn’t always easy, so a flexible understanding approach helps with the transition. Being fairly relaxed about things especially when staying in Italy is a pretty good attitude, embrace the culture because it’s different don’t fight it. Also, when living with a host family it’s important to be polite and always remember and respect that it’s their home.
Language Skills
Confident, fluent and proficient in the English language is a basic requirement. It’s one thing English being your native tongue, it’s completely different having to teach in Italy English to Italians. English is the most requested language for Italians due to the technology and online world using English as the lingua franca. It isn’t necessary however, to be fluent in Italian, although some knowledge of the language does help. A willingness to learn the language is just as useful and by living and eating with a host family, basic Italian will be picked up quickly.
And finally, when teaching English overseas jobs will require responsibility and dedication to the full term/period offered so the children or family get continuity in their learning.
