Five Tips For Author Marketing And Author Promotion
When a writer has a book ready to take to market, he or she won’t get very far if they don’t know how to get it there. Author marketing agencies know how competitive the book industry is, and that because of this high level of competition; author marketing campaigns must be more than just well-planned. They must be well-executed.
In this post, we want to share five tips for effective author marketing that we would tell to any writer. Agencies focused on author marketing and author promotion are committed to using these tips and more to bring success to their clients, all authors without the time or skill to mount a strong author promotion program.
Tip 1. Use television and radio. A lot of people don’t realize it, but many people they see on talk shows or hear being interviewed on the radio got there through the strategic use of press releases. The media is always looking for an interesting story, and it’s been our experience that press releases are a highly effective component of any author marketing strategy.
Tip 2. Use magazines and newspapers. As in television and radio, author promotion ...
... works well in the print media, because magazines and newspapers depend to some degree on press releases to fill space in their publications. When presented the way editors want them, press releases help writers get their feet in the door and reach the right market.
Tip 3. Use the Internet. There’s nothing as big as the Internet, and with proper execution, online author marketing can lead to great success for a writer. Blogs are excellent tools to attract search engines and therefore potential buyers. A website, to which the blog will point readers, can be designed to showcase and sell the writer’s book.
Tip 4. Use trade shows. Trade shows can dramatically increase the sale of a book by getting it in front of major buyers at book industry. Catalogs at these shows provide author information so interested parties can contact the writer directly. As part of a good author promotion program, this tip should not be overlooked.
Tip 5. Use author media training. We strongly advise that any writer who expects to be interviewed by any sector of the media undergo media relations training. As part of a book publicity campaign, this training will help the writer to be comfortable and successful in an interview setting through “real-life” scenario practice and other tools.
These five strategies are only the beginning, however. An experienced, professional book publicity agency has many more ways to help a book and its author go from unknown to widely known. It’s not enough these days to find a publisher and let that firm do all the work. Getting a book and a writer noticed is truly a team effort, with the publisher (in those cases where there is one), the author’s publicist and the author all having important tasks to accomplish.
