Vitiligo Treatment
According to American Vitiligo Research Foundation (AVRF), vitiligo is incurable disease. There is no such treatments are invented, that can just give patient’s their skin color back. Vitiligo treatments purposes are to re-produce melanin cells in skin. The treatment choices are fully dependent on factors like:
Patient’s age
Type of Disease
Skin condition
Number of previous treatments taken
Affects of medications or vaccination
Current treatment etc.
Now a day, in vitiligo treatments UV rays is broadly used by surgeons in order to get recovery or treat from vitiligo skin condition.
The treatments and their descriptions for vitiligo are given below:
L-Phenylalanine:
It is recommended that L-phenylalanine prescribe dosage of medicine should be taken along with meal, according to the patient’s strength.
Picrorhiza:
According to Research, Picrorhiza, in amalgamation with the drug methoxsalen and sun exposure, was reported to treat vitiligo.
Hydrochloric Acid:

PUVA Treatment:
PUVA is an acronym where “P” stands for “Psoralen” and “UVA” stands for long wavelength UV light. The treatment principle is to amplify the skin sensitivity of patient. Before the PUVA treatment, psoralen drug is given to patient, which is approved by food & drug administrative, used to increase the skin sensitivity of patient’s in order to easily face the light. There are three ways of getting psoralen drug. It can be taken by mouth (orally), through topical applications like creams & lotions (with the psoralen ingredient) and by bath.
Tattooing:
It is not a traditional vitiligo treatment but used as a camouflage technique. With the help of artificial pigments that are deposited into the skin, by using any tattooing needles or surgical techniques. It will work best for darker skins, and the color may become lighter with the passage of time. The correctness of color match is depends on the tattooing making specialists.
Oral psoralen therapy:
Oral psoralen therapy is designed by excessive vitiligo suffering patients. Psoralen tablet is taken through orally (by mouth) ways. It is suggested that children should be avoided to get this therapy as it can damages the eye vision, or can be cause of other skin diseases like vitiligo, eczema etc.
UVB and Psoralen Treatment:
In Photochemotherapy or light therapy Psoralen drug along with UVB shorter wave length (315-280nm) is given to patient to treat vitiligo disease. The treatment side effects are very dangerous. It leaves scare patches on body, can be cause of appearance of skin cancer or other skin disorders.
Autologous skin grafts or Transplantation:
A kind of surgical treatment through which surgeons by means of surgical tools takes pigment producing cells (melanin) from any pigmented part of body and transfer it to depigmented part of body. One disadvantage of the treatment is that, it leaves scare patches on skin.
Allopathic Treatment:
Homeopathic or allopathic treatments are used to treat vitiligo patients with natural producing medicines. In world of vitiligo homeopathic treatment, most admirable product is Anti Vitiligo oil. Oxsoralen is highly phototoxic. So it should be only used if physician recommends, and it is only applicable on small vitiligo spots.

A topical application includes creams, sun-creams, and lotions. Many vitiligo topical applications are easily available in market that effectively works in the re-production of pigment producing (melanin) cells in skin.
