In recent years, many people have begun to make paracord bracelets and other items using 550 Type III paracord that is made by United States government approved contractors. Paracord is an extremely strong and lightweight nylon rope that orginated for use with parachutes in World War II. The United States Armed Forces also use paracord to bind equipment to vehicles for transport. In the private sector, many people use paracord to tie objects to cars and trucks or even to have available when they are camping. Paracord can also be extremely useful in a survival situation to save a life. People have created tourniquets to stop bleeding and to hoist heavy objects up or down steep terrain for many years. Having a length of paracord available at all times is a great idea. Adults and children alike love to make things with paracord so they can wear them on their person at all times, conveniently making paracord available within a moments notice. Military ...
... soldiers often wear paracord bracelets and other items at all times due to the fact they may find themselves in a survival situation at any given time without warning or notice. Because of this, paracord bracelets are often called paracord survival bracelets or simply survival bracelets.
Paracord bracelets are great to wear to keep approximately six to eight feet of paracord available at all times for a simple braided paracord bracelet but larger braided bracelets can yield 16-18 feet or more of paracord within the paracord bracelet. Paracord bracelets can be made in solid colors or in many color combinations such as high school team colors, college team colors or professional team colors, such as NFL football teams. Paracord bracelets may also be licensed to show trademarked logos for companies, sports teams, the U.S. Army, USMC, and other organizations. Some paracord bracelets are not licensed for the teams and do not carry the team official logos but the team colors are representative of their loyal fans. Some licensed products even contain plastic or metal tags and charms with the logo on them, making them very fashionable items.
Some companies, such as Paracord Power, even warrant their products for replacement if you have to use your paracord bracelet or other items. Be sure to review their warranty replacement guidelines because most of them require for you to return what is left of the bracelet in order to qualify for replacement. Paracord bracelets are made by braiding the cord in various patterns. Some of these are the cobra braid, king cobra, ladder braid, fishtail and others. Depending on the braid, the paracord bracelet may be simple or difficult to unbraid for use in a needful situation, but most can be unbraided in just a few minutes on the average. The most common buckle types are the plastic side release buckle and the adjustable stainless steel shackle, which can cause the cost to vary slightly. The metal shackle gives the paracord bracelet a stronger appearance and can also be useful if you have to fashion a pully type mechanism to hoist something heavy.
