Electro-magnetic Compatibility Of Electrical Product
An electric product might cause the malfunction to other electric appliances by discharging the electromagnetic emission noise from it, or is oppositely caused the malfunction by the emission noise from other electric appliances. The former is checked by the EMI test and the latter is checked by the EMS test.
Electromagnetic Compatibility, or EMC, is defined as the ability of a product to operate without malfunctioning within its intended electromagnetic environment after receiving interference from other devices within its environment, and also not to interfere in the operation of other products/devices within its environment.
The international standard like the CISPR standard is provided so that such an accident should not happen, and the manufacturer must declare them beforehand that their product meets the standard. The generic name of the EMI test (Electro-Magnetic Interference) of the emission measurement and the EMS test (Electro-Magnetic Susceptibility) of the immunity measurement is the EMC test (Electro-Magnetic Compatibility). As for the EMI test, it is further classified into the radiated emission ...
... discharged into the air and the conducted emission discharged to the power line.
In the field of Electromagnetic Compatibility commonly referred to as EMC a variety of products related to noise will help you find measure and suppress noise in your products. Special test equipment can be used to meet the regulatory requirements for EMC or to make your products work better.
The restriction standardized concerning safety and quality of the product is called “New Approach Directives." The CE is marked on the product to show that it fills the essential requirements of these directives. The most important directive regarding electronic equipment is EMC Directive. Any products without CE mark cannot be sold in EU countries of Europe. The restriction of EMC is applied not only in Europe but also in Japan by the VCCI standard and in the United States by the FCC standard. Even in Asian countries such as China and South Korea, the restriction becomes stronger and the recognition to the EMC test or the EMI test has risen very much.
What is Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Testing ?
It encompasses the two general fields
1) Emission: the unwanted generation of electromagnetic energy by the product.
2) Immunity: the continuing operation of electrical equipment in the presence of unplanned electromagnetic disturbances.
Limits for emission levels are set by the various worldwide regulatory agencies. EMI/EMC test equipment from various standard manufacturers can be used for compliance or pre-compliance emissions and immunity testing to meet the various National and International EMC regulations/standards. EMI noise sources (comb generators) for validating EMI test and near-field probe sets have helped engineers around the world to find solutions for EMI noise problems in their products.
