So, you’re thinking of installing granite worktops for your home, but you're just not sure if granite is the right choice for you. While granite definitely has a ‘wow’ factor, it also has many practical advantages.

The Many Benefits of Granite

Cleaning- Granite is a simple type of stone to clean, typically only requiring warm water and a soft cloth for daily cleaning. Even tough stains only require the addition of an eco-friendly soap. What does this mean for your home? It means you don’t have to purchase those expensive chemical cleaners that are not only bad for your worktops, but also for your health, your family’s health, and even your pet’s health. It also means cleaning up your worktop is simple and quick to do. If you take the time to seal the stone twice a year, it will also be high resistant to stains.

Health Risks- Wooden worktops can be breeding grounds for bacteria, even after you wash them with harsh chemical cleaners. Granite, however, is resistant to bacteria and doesn’t shelter it, making it a healthier and more hygienic choice.

Durability- In order to cut granite, saws with diamond tips are necessary. This means they are extremely durable and will resist. While light scratches on the seal may develop from the use of scrub pads, the stone is generally resistant to all scratches, can withstand the accidental placement on hot items on its surface, and resists stains.

Value- Most traditional worktops that are made from laminate or wood have to be replaces every few years. With granite, you don’t have to worry about that. As long as you properly care for it and re-seal it every six months or so, it can last as long as your home does. This not only increases your home’s value, should you ever decide to move, but its other advantages, like its ease of maintenance and wide colour range, can also increase the value of your home in the eyes of a potential buyer.

Cost- While granite may cost just a bit more than laminate and man-made stone, it can usually be found in the same price range of stainless steel and silestone, depending on where it is originally from. However, because of its permanence in the home, granite makes up its actually cost quickly, and, in the long run, can actually be a less expensive option because you don’t have to replace it every few years.

Kid Friendly- Have we mentioned how durable a granite worktop is? If you have children, you know how rough their play can be. Luckily, a granite worktop can stand up to just about anything, whether it’s a dropped pan, a spilled jar of sauce, or an overflowing sink of water. Granite can handle it all, especially when sealed correctly, so you can have peace of mind knowing your children can learn and play without having to worry about them damaging your worktops.

If you are thinking of purchasing new worktops for your home, consider granite. It is the tougher and healthier choice for both you and your family.
