Not many would relate to the catchphrase ‘simple is beautiful’ as in this powdered world, simplicity is not much there to see. However, the web world is different from the real world and probably time has come that web users are really falling in love with minimal website design.

Those who don’t know, minimal is achieved when a designer gets rid off or just doesn’t include the less important elements. While drawing the line for the minimum might become difficult some times, seasoned designers just know how to keep a balance. That said, let’s spread some knowledge about how it works.

Importance of white space

Everything on a webpage at its own level tries to catch user’s attention. Hence, more the elements, more competition important elements have in getting noticed. Believing in the same logic, the concept of minimalism suggests doing away with the unnecessary elements and letting the negative space or white space divert attention to the important elements. White space is at the very centre of the minimalistic design.

Text navigation

While using navigation bars is more ...
... than common,
minimalistic web designs rather prefer to go with text navigation. If the design doesn’t have too much to catch attention, then just text depicting pages is enough. If you have been browsing for a while now, you must have noticed that horizontal bar navigation is given more importance than vertical one. The same is not the case in minimal web design. Vertical as well as horizontal navigational arrangements are equally popular.

Color Usage and Popularity of Gray

Designers of a website development company would certainly state that minimalistic designs doesn’t show the trend of vast color usage. There is more emphasis on the quality of the layout and less on the color usage. However, to highlight important elements like headers and navigation, colors are smartly used keeping in mind the background. Speaking of backgrounds, gray is quite popular in the same area. For texts and images too, shades of gray are well accepted.

Power of Typography

More negative spaces increase the scope of experimentation in the field of typography. By making use of different font styles and colors, designers convey different ideas in the least possible words. With new fonts coming up from time to time, designers are never shy to use them to catch the fancy of their audience. So, if you come across a word with font size of ‘100’ on a homepage, then don’t be surprised.

No Compromise with Creativity

Minimalism doesn’t mean it cannot accommodate creativity and it has to stay out of the way. In fact, this is the most challenging part of minimalistic design. By thinking out-of-the-box with layouts, navigation, typography and content, one can stretch the boundaries of creative thinking. The bottom-line is that one can be creative while creating minimal design.

So, this was minimal design explained. There might be limited number of directly offers for minimal designing but if someone does wish to get one for business or personal usage, then going through website design packages and then discussing about the minimal aspect would certainly help.
