According to the Company Chairman of the renowned Indian software firm, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), the firm has not come across any remarkable visa issues though there may have been certain avoidable delays in the processing of the visas. Ratan Tata reportedly disclosed that no major troubles whatsoever have been faced by the firm in the matter of the issuance of the permits. There could have been certain delays though in the processing of the same (visas) which may be because it is a part of the new procedure.

It needs to be mentioned that visa related issues have been a key issue for many IT firms from India, such as the TCS—the biggest software firm of the country. The rates of refusal for visa are as high as 40% across the US. The L1 (meant for intra-company transfers of workers to the offices located across the US from other destinations) and H-1B (non-immigrant permit which enables the US firms to hire workers from abroad in specialty vocations) are the most regular visa classes for the IT companies from India.

During August 2010, the fees were raised for both the classes, while changes are in the ...
... pipeline in the immigration rules & regulations of the US which is responsible for a staggering 60% of the total generated revenues of the IT sector of India. Consequently, firms from India are an important segment of the specialized visa applications in the US. This year, the TCS has duly applied for 5,900 H-1B permits for the US. Last year, the TCS had submitted 4,500 applications. It means there has been an increase of 1,400 applications presented by the firm this year.

Reportedly, sometime before, a concerned person from the Indian company had disclosed that--in view of the rather high risks of the refusals of the permits in the L1 class--the firm is now aiming for an increased number of the H-1B permits.
