Chennai To Mahabalipuram- All Aboot India Heritage
Mahabalipuram, located in the district of Kancheepuram in the state of Tamil Nadu, is a sea port of 7th century. Mahabalipuram was under the rule of pallavas for a long time. Mahabalipuram is said to be the second capital of Pallava dynasty. The city was named after the Pallava king, Narasimhavarma I, to whom the title of Maha malla, the great wrestler was given. Mahabalipuram is known for its several ancient historical monuments which are in the UNESCO World Heritage Sites and for the beaches. Placed along the Coromandel Coast, Mahabalipuram, is known for the sandy beaches, casuarinas trees and ancient temples.
The city of Mahabalipuram is a delight for archeologists as various megalithic items like burial urns, jars for burials, coins, and cairn circles are recovered from this site. The city, also called Mamallapuram, is also known for its old temples built by Pallavas made from rocks. Some of these temples were carved out of the rocks.
