Needed: Men Of Courage

We live in a generation of compromise. Instead of taking a stand on issues it is easier to tone down one's voice and escape uncomfortable circumstances. This situation urgently calls for men who are willing to take a stand on essentials without fearing the disapproval of people.

A good way to defeat one's enemy is to shatter his courage to fight. Satan frequently uses this device to attack Christians. God's children are engaged in warfare with the forces of evil, and this needs a good amount of spiritual courage. Since spiritual courage and spiritual growth are interlinked, Satan usually tries to destroy our courage any time that he can manage to intimidate us.

Every day we witness many believers who loose their courage and turn into cowards. Even the apostle Peter could not keep his courage before the pressure of the legalistic Christians when he visited the churches of Galatia. This should warn us lesser believers also to keep watch over our stand on matters in which we need unusual courage.

Today we need men who can stand up courageously to fight Satan and his attack in many important areas. ...
... In the following paragraphs I have explained a few things were one can quickly loose courage.

Bible As the Only Word of God: Most of my readers believe that Bible is the word of God. I am not referring to this belief. Here I am referring to some ideas that have lately crept into Bible believing churches. These ideas seem harmless and innocent but ultimately they are an attack to undermine the belief in Bible as the only word of God.

One of these teachings says that other religions also have words from God in their Holy Books. Others say that God speaks to us even today through dreams and visions like He did through Old Testament prophets. Still others say that Bible contains the word of God but all of it is not to be accepted the word of God.

If other religious books also contain words inspired by God then the Bible no longer is "The Word of God". It is merely one of the God-given books. This will eventually lead to the thinking that since all religious books contains God's message, therefore any of them can lead man to God and salvation. Thus from a simple compromise one reaches a conclusion diametrically opposed to the message of Bible.

If God speaks to man even today through dreams and visions, like through the Old Testament prophets, then Bible is not yet complete. False teachers then use this compromise to impose their teachings on ignorant Christians. All they need to do is to claim that it is a fresh revelation from God. Since Satan often uses dreams and visions to mislead people, it is very common for such people to eventually reject the whole Bible.

If we believe that The Bible merely "contains" the word of God we will gradually start doubting many of its statements and historical records. This will lead us to a low opinion of the word of God. I am not implying that every word recorded in the Bible was spoken by God. Surely it contains the speeches of men, angels, and even animals. But once it has all been recorded accurately, it is there for our instruction. And in that way the full book is the Word of God.

These erroneous views about the Bible and books of other religions are usually presented with such sincerity, learning, or pressure that people usually hesitate to oppose them even though they know within their hearts that this is heresy. This is why we need men who have the courage to say that Bible is the only word of God given as a whole Holy-Spirit-inspired unit. Any concession under pressure will destroy this view.

Bible As The Only Code of Conduct: We all need rules and guidelines for our life and conduct. My readers would generally accept that the Bible provides their code of conduct. But today Christians have accepted many practices that are not allowed by the Bible. These practices might look like only a minor deviation, but in effect they are saying that humans are allowed to decide against the word of God. This kind of compromise gradually leads us as individuals (or as a community) to major violations of God rules.

We need men who are not afraid of pressure from others, men who are not willing to break even the smallest commandment in the Bible, men who defend the Bible as the only unbreakable code of conduct for our lives.

Christian Morality As The Absolute Morality: Since men have always liked to live as they please, they have kept on changing the definitions of morality and immorality. Thus today every society and group has its own private moral values, totally at variance with the Scripture.

A number of these groups put forward their deviant moral views so cunningly that many Christians fall prey to them. We know how wrong these views are, but very few of us have stood up to openly oppose these suggestions. However, everyone must recognize that only the Bible provides unchanging moral values. These do not depend on place, time or society. They are absolute. We cannot accept any other standards.

Conclusion: Satan cleverly puts pressure on God's children to destroy their courage. Because of such pressure many start compromising on small matters but end up with serious errors of faith or conduct. We need men of courage who oppose all perversion and fight all pressure that aims to destroy their courage.
