Sound quality is important in every device, which is meant for listening. Sound clarity should be mapped in a subwoofer before being purchased. The sound decibels have severe impact on the human ear and perhaps each subwoofer testing is important. If the sound quality of any subwoofer or listening device is not good then you can consider having a large subwoofer compared to small ones. Ultimately, any subwoofer must not sound like the peculiar subwoofer. It must integrate well along the main speakers to distinguish from the system. The system must not call for attention. The bass must be highly extended, detailed and much powerful; having the sound which is more open, articulate and transparent. The sound consistency has the natural coherence, which makes it essential in the long term enjoyment.

Room acoustics are dominated in and around the bass of a subwoofer. The main idea is to have subwoofer which has defined path length from one subwoofer to the actual listening position. The path length to another subwoofer is opposite to the wall if two small subs are considered.
