In Windows 7, you can use a restore point to restore system to the old state at the restore point creating time, thus to fix system error. Why? Most serious issues in Windows are caused by problems with the Windows Registry, device drivers, or DLL files. When a restore point is created, a current copy of these and other important files in Windows 7 are saved and can be restored using System Restore.
As windows login password is stored in system file, when you forgot windows 7 password used at present, you can use system restore to make the old password valid, thus bypass the unknown windows 7 password. Therefore, before making any major changes to your computer, you’d better create a restore point.
How to create system restore point in win 7?

1. Right click Computer and select Properties.

2. In the left pane, click System protection. If you’re prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

3. Click the System Protection tab, and ...
... then click Create button.

4. In the System Protection dialog box, type a description, and then click Create.
How to restore system with system restore point?

1. Navigate to the Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System Restore.

2. In the launched System Restore window, click Next to see System Restore points.

3. Choose the restore point that you want to go back to.
Note: Any restore points that you created manually, scheduled restore points that Windows 7 created, and those created automatically during the installation of certain programs will be listed here.
1. Click Next.

2. Click Finish to begin the System Restore.
Note: Windows 7 will shut down to complete the System Restore, so be sure you have saved all your work before continuing.
Tip: System Restore will not revert any of your non-system files like documents, email, music, etc. to a previous state. These types files are completely unaffected by System Restore. If your want to recover a deleted non-system file, try using file restore if you made file backup.
1. Click Yes to dialogue box to confirm uninterrupted system restore again.

2. System Restore will now restore Windows 7 to the state that was recorded in the restore point you chose in Step 3.

3. After logging in to Windows 7 after the reboot, you would get the prompt that System Restore completed successfully.

4. Check to see if the system problem has been corrected by this System Restore. If the problem still persists, you can repeat the steps above and choose another restore point if possible.
System image can also be used for System Restore. To create a system image, Control Panel -> System and Security (view in category) -> Backup and Restore -> Create a system image in left panel. The image can be created on another hard disk, a DVD as well as a network. That is to say, the system image DVD is also a tool to restore system and bypass windows 7 password.
