How Vedic Astrology Differs From Western Astrology
Vedic Astrology, popularly practised in India, finds its origin in the Vedas. The Vedas are said to be the main source of teachings imparted as part of Vedic Indian culture. The Vedas originated about five thousand years ago in India.
Even though the Vedas are the oldest books known to mankind, Vedic sciences are practiced even today. The Rishi Munis passed on their knowledge from one generation to the next. This age old tradition continues till today, although a portion of the information is documented these days.
Six branches referred to as the Vedangas by the Rishis were developed to help us understand the Vedas. Vedic Astrology helps us see through life’s problems and approach situations with a fresh perspective.
Vedic astrologers interpret the positions of planets and stars at the time of our birth to gain insight into the destiny-patterns influencing us.
How does Vedic Astrology differ from western?
Vedic Astrology is far more complex compared to western astrology. Apart from the nine planets which one studies to derive conclusions, Vedic Astrologers consider the Moon, Sun, Rahu and ...
... Ketu as planets too. Rahu’s role in vedic astrology is said to be a much bigger one. Its position decides what the fate of the child will be. Ketu’s position, sunrise timings and moonrise timings, etc. are all considered to be an important part of Vedic Astrology.
Indian Astrologers practice Vedic Astrology:
There’s a belief that only Astrologers based in India practice Vedic Astrology. This is a myth. Believers of astrology practice all forms of astrology depending upon their strengths. Whether one is located in Singapore or America, he or she can still practice Vedic Astrology.
Panchang is significant in Vedic Astrology:
When one studies or follows Vedic Astrology, he or she is bound to come across the Panchang. The Panchang is nothing but a calendar of events and daily prayer timings for the Hindus. Sunrise timings, moonrise timings, tithi and yog are given in the Panchang for the follower to understand the day’s significance.
Gemstones and Rudrakshas for healing:
The way Feng Shui experts believe in the power of healing crystals, Vedic Astrologers believe in recommending Gemstones and Rudrakshas. The wearer of gemstones and Rudrakshas can beat the malefic effects of its planets and overcome hurdles. Healing happens when one believes that the gemstone has the power to cure him. Do not wear a gemstone without believing in its healing properties.
Yantras in Vedic Astrology:
To cure problems Vedic Astrologers recommend various Yantras. These Yantras are energised and are used for healing purposes. Popular among these are the Shukra Yantra, Sampurna Mahalaxmi Yantra, Kuber Yantra and Shani Yantra, etc.
Consulting a Vedic Astrologer for marriage related queries is very common in India. Matching Kundali before fixing a marriage date is a must. Whether a couple will be happy or not after marriage is judged on the basis of the kundali. Western Astrology and Vedic Astrology are both very popular forms of Astrology and it all depends on one’s beliefs. The choice is entirely up to the believer.
