Chennai, earlier known as Madras, is the capital of Tamil Nadu, a south Indian state. This city is the second largest exporter of computer and IT related products and services in India. It is well connected by buses, trains and air to rest of the country as a lot of people travel from/to this city every day. On the way to Ooty, there are several petrol pumps and food joints at regular intervals so there is not much to be bothered about fuel and food. Also you can hire a cab, the approximate cost of cabs range from INR15 to INR45 per kilometre, depending upon the type of car. There is no direct train to Ooty for those who intend to travel by train from Chennai. But you can take a direct train from Chennai to Mettupalayam which is the nearest railway station to Ooty and it takes around 9 hours in total to reach Ooty. Mettupalayam railway station is located at a distance of 52 Km from Ooty, and this can be covered by taxi or bus.

Those who travel by air they can take a direct flight from Chennai to Coimbatore, which is the nearest airport to Ooty and that takes about an hour. Coimbatore airport is located at a distance of around 98 km from Ooty and can be covered by taxi or bus. Flights are recommended for kids and seniors.
