Mobile Telephony In India-00-616
It was just about 15 years ago that the Mobile telephony came into use. Being one of the foremost steps towards mordenisation it was well known that the world of Mobile Telephony would certainly have a big market in each and every part of the world. It would have influence on every Private sector, Public sector and Joint sectors in each and every country. In India Mobile Telephony came not much later after it's Invention.
But, the first Company to make it widespread in India was Reliance Communications which is now known as Reliance India Mobile. In the beginning Mobile Phones were something meant for important people and people who were wealthy in those times. It was really a great thing for those people who had mobile phones. It was not like these days when even a Rickshaw puller in India has a Mobile of his own. The Reliance India Mobile and other Mobile Networks had then also Incoming Call Charges. Pre- Paid Mobile Service was not available in those days. It was first Reliance India Mobile to bring Pre- Paid Mobile services in India. This Company was even successful in making Mobile Telephony widespread by releasing ...
... the Dhirubhai Ambani Pioneer Offer to its customers. It was this step that brought Mobile Communications to more people in India. The Offers under this scheme were very promising and the cheapest then available. It brought mobile phones in the hands of Upper Middle class men. The Mobile that was just a source of importance to important and wealthy people now had begun to come to the hands of Upper Middle Class society people. People who did not have much need of taking a Mobile Phone had also taken it for style and to show their status in society. In the beginning it was as if Reliance Mobile communications was making a Monopoly Market in India. But, sadly enough there were also other tough competitors emerging to take up the potential Mobile Market in India. With the advent of Bharati Telecom (now better known as Airtel), Hutchinson Essar, MTNL, BSNL the competition was getting tougher and rising competitions led to the fall in price of Mobile Networks and Mobile Telephones in India.
In India NOKIA was truly dominant from the beginning. The GSM Handsets of Nokia were certainly making a dominant monopoly market in India. But there were also GSM competitors of Nokia like LG, Sony etc. LG Mobile phones were not in much competition with Nokia at that time because Nokia had a pride in its name and quality that other Mobile Handset makers could not provide. There has been always a community of people now and also then who have a great faith in Nokia and its products. But, LG Mobiles started giving a tough competition to Nokia when the Reliance India Mobile came with its exciting Dhirubhai Ambani Pioneer offer. Reliance Communications is a CDMA network based cellular phone service. So, while buying a connection of Reliance, a customer also had to buy the Handsets provided by their network providers according to their choice of a limited number of Handsets. Reliance Mobiles used LG as their Handset manufacturer and this bought LG a good dominating market in India. It also was a tough competition for Nokia because as most people then used to take Reliance Communications as their Mobile Networks therefore they also had to take LG Handsets as their Phones. Needless, to say the price of Mobile Phones were falling gradually in India and the cost for a Mobile Connection and all Charges were also reducing gradually.
As the Mobile Telephony prices kept falling gradually middle class people and lower middle class people also had the money to buy Mobile Phones. The falling price and rising competition of Mobile Telephony in the Indian Market brought many good effects like fall in price of Call Charges and the most exciting fact about this was that incoming call charges were reduced to Zero. This was not all over. Reliance Communication could not hold up their market for too long as Airtel, Hutchinson Essar, BSNL, and Tata Indicom were the next players in the Mobile Market for the next few years. Though Reliance Communication is present till now but it did not have a serious competitor in the market. The Mobile Phones till did not come to Lower Class People in India. But, that was not too far off. With the coming of Life-Time Pre-Paid services by Airtel and Hutch mobile networks became cheaper. In Life-Time Plans a Customer had to pay once the cost of the Mobile Network and use his connection for life-time. This made Mobile Networks in India so cheap that people like Rickshaw pullers, Taxi Drivers and Daily workers had also enough money to buy a mobile run its cost.
Today, nearly each and every guy you see has a Mobile Phone. It doesn't matter how poor he is or how much he can earn per day. Even today there is a tough competition between Mobile Networks. The leading Mobile Networks today in India are Airtel, Vodafone (sold by Hutchinson Essar to Vodafone), BSNL, MTNL, Orange, Aircel, Tata Indicom, Idea, BPL etc. Each of these companies has a tough competition with one another. BSNL & MTNL being government sectors have more advantages than other Private sector Companies. The Competition goes on in an efficient way in India Today. The Mobile Phone that was invented as a talking device can be used a lot of other things as well. Today Mobile Networks give facilities like GPRS (Mobile Internet), SMS (Short Messaging Service), and MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service) on our Mobiles. Not only does the Call Charges come into Competition and play the GPRS, SMS, and MMS charges also compete with one another. These networks also make false promises and also provide exciting offers to their customers. The Price of Mobile Handsets is decreasing at high rates. Black and White mobiles are going to be extinct as colour Mobiles are cong up into play at the prices of Black & White mobiles. Today there are many Mobile Handset Manufacturers in India. They compete with one another in giving the best set at the lowest price. Some mobile manufacturers today in India are Nokia, Sony Ericsson, BPL, LG, Huawei, Spice, Benq, Blackberry etc. These manufacturers are coming up with new models every day. They come up with more features in a set than the previous one planning to be the most dominant among all.
Though the Mobile Market in India has a long way to go and is improving at a fast rate but no one thinks much about are adverse effects. The innumerable Network Towers around the country is bringing an unnoticed adverse effect to the Nature and even is life threatening to us. The Radio Waves that the Mobile Towers use kill many birds and is even harmful to us. We keep mobiles with us and the Radio waves also affect us. Recent studies have proved that a person being exposed to Mobile Radio Waves has a much greater chance to have cancer than the person who is not prone to it. Keeping these things in mind we should use the latest gadgets with one fact in mind, that it should not affect any of us.
