Flowers in vibrant colors can make anybody’s day. When they come neatly arranged in a beautiful bouquet, it’s even better. However, most times, people find that the tropical flowers that came in their bouquet have wilted, even though they had put them in a vase filled with water immediately. However, just putting them in water does not suffice.
There are some other factors too which you need to keep in mind in order to keep the fresh flowers in your vase last longer.
• When you buy your flowers, make sure you check their leaves and stem. Any browning on the tips of the leaves or stem would suggest that they are already old. Hence, they won’t last long.
• Keep your flowers in a clean vase. Make sure the vase does not have any microorganisms. Rinsing your vase with lukewarm water and a soap solution is a good idea.
• Always use lukewarm water for filling your vase and change water every day.
• Before keeping your tropical flower arrangement in a vase, do snip off the end of the stems by about a couple of inches. ...
... Do so every day, as it is the end of the stems which begin to brown the quickest.
• Make sure to remove all the leaves from the bottom of the vase. Leaves can begin to rot quickly and hence spread bacteria.
• Makes sure your tropical flowers are cool when they are out of water. Avoid keeping them near heat sources such as the top of the television, near AC vents, close to a window which receives a lot of sunshine. It is also important to keep the flowers cool at night. Take them out of water and store them in your refrigerator overnight.
• Use flower food packets. These packets come with nutrients which are essential for the well being of flowers.
• While buying fresh flowers, try to buy those which have still not opened. Apart from orchids, most flowers open up after they are put in the vase. That ways, you will get blooms that last long.
• As they begin to grow old, remove the ones which are beginning to brown and replace them with fresher ones.
• If your tropical flower arrangement has daffodils, make sure you move your daffodils to a complete new vase. They are known to release a certain toxin which is harmful for other flowers.
