Mexico, which has been a favoured destination for many US-based automakers and suppliers, is seeing growing investments from Japanese automakers too. Honda, Mazda and Nissan have lined up major investments in the country over the next two to three years, centered on increasing production and assembly operations as well as on setting up supplier parks. Since then vehicle production is on recovery path in Mexico, largely driven by a revival in exports with vehicle production increasing 51% to 2.26 million in 2010 and a further 12.8% to a record 2.55 million in 2011 to become the eighth largest vehicle manufacturing country worldwide after China, Japan, US, Germany, South Korea, Brazil and India. IHS Automotive forecast that vehicle production in the country will breach 4.2 million units in 2020.
