In the UK, the number of people suffering from allergies and intolerances has, over the years gradually increased. Exactly why this is the case is not fully understood and it is a phenomenon that is repeated throughout much of the Western world.

These allergies and intolerances can manifest themselves at any stage of a person's life. However, many people are actually born with the more common intolerances, such as being unable to cope with dairy products or wheat.

Living with Food Intolerances

For someone who is only affected by intolerance rather than a full-blown allergy living with the condition is not too bad. It takes a while to adjust the diet, but once you get used to it you can cope quite well. Having what you can eat limited is in most cases is more of an inconvenience more than anything. You just have to be careful to supplement your diet with any nutrients you may not be getting because you cannot eat a certain food group. For example, is you cannot drink or eat any form or dairy products you will need to get calcium from other sources. If you are unable to get enough, this way you may have to ...
... take a calcium supplement to remain healthy.

However, for someone who suffers from a range of food intolerances some advanced medical nutrition products may be needed. This is particularly the case for the very young. A baby on a highly restrictive diet is highly unlikely to get the nutrients it needs to grow and develop properly from that diet. Their parents really need to seek medical help and gain access to the right nutritional supplements and nutrition products is important.

Where to Find out More About Special Nutrition Products

If you suffer from a food allergy or intolerance, it is a good idea to join a support group. They can help you to get the balance of your diet right. In addition, look online for nutrition products that are specifically designed for people who cannot eat the group of foods you are allergic to or intolerant of. However, do not take any supplements or other products over the long term without consulting your doctor.
