Kakinada; It Is The Sixth Largest City In Andhra

The popularity of Kakinada can be gauged from the fact that it has three nicknames that are complimentary. It is called the ', Pensioner's Paradise', Second Madras and the Fertilizer City. In area, it is the sixth largest city in Andhra, but population-wise, it is the ninth. Kakinada is a sea port and this has made it a hub for industries. Prospecting along the Godavari basin has increased its importance. When you look at the Kakinada map, you can see its position vis a vis the river.

Kakinada was referred to by some unusual names when the British ruled India. It was called Co Canada, a name which is reflected in the code the Railways use for it even now. The longitude that marked the Indian Standard Time cuts through here. Kakinada is divided into two parts. The northern areas are the more recent ones and more growth is seen there. Botanists come here to study the mangrove forests which are one of the largest in India.

Food is generally South Indian but Punjabi dishes are also served. There are several parks here. One can go down to the beach too. Kakinada is connected by rail to the rest of India. Within the state, buses will take you around to towns that can be spotted on the Kakinada map. If you wish to fly in or out you will have to go to Rajamundry as that is the nearest airport. Individuals who come here on work or pleasure can stay in the Kakinada hotels. Tourists can explore the possibility of going deep sea fishing. This town has a number of movie theatres and among local people movies are very popular. For a quiet relaxing holiday, this town is good.
